In 1962, a Vulcan Bomber was coming into land at Filton Bristol, ( future Concorde Home) but, the weather was stormy, with very heavy rain and the Vulcan aqua planed and lost stability, so landing was aborted. Suddenly, it seemed to stand on it's tail, and rose almost vertically, on full power, and with colossal noise, rose up like a Monster, with about 60 feet left, before risking smashing through a wire fence and into Petrol Station pumps, that amazingly, had been built along the main A38 road, that ran passed the Airfield. That unearthly 'HOWL' was deffening, and the blast flattened Petrol Pumps and the Kiosk shed there, and blowing some cars off their intended direction. Nobody was hurt, but it was one hell of a scare. I think the Vulcan landed ok at Fairford. ( why didn't those Petrol pumps explode?? ) Heavy rain I suppose.

I'm not a Brit. Never been fortunate enough to have seen one of these monsters of the cold war. The look and sound of the Tu-95 or B-52 aint nothing compared to this. I can definitely see what you Brits see in her. I share your love for it. She has seduced me with her siren song...a sound no longer to be heard. I imagine the howl could be felt. I imagine that sound sent chills up the spine. Some group of investors could take interest in her, rebuild two or three of them and make a ghost squadron of them...fly them to air shows...let the old retired original pilots have the honors. There's probably not the parts available to make this happen for even ONE airworthy bird, though. The project would quickly approach a one hundred million pound price tag, having to build all new parts, deal with the HUGE maintenance burden. Her Majesty saw fit to retire this for good reason, I'd imagine.

@@trashpanda-sg2xh The problem is the airframe is pretty old now - and The only companies that had knowledge of engineering no longer wished to be involved - I suspect a lot of this was related to the Shoreham Airshow crash in 2015 which was the last year the vulcan flew. 11 people were killed in the crash which although attributed to pilot error made the companies pretty nervous about being involved. So it wouldnt be allowed to fly again by the CAA - it still does taxi runs up and down the runway I beleive. Real shame - I work in southampton and one year the vulcan did a couple of flybys of nearby eastleigh airport, and they flew directly over my building - many of us thought the building was falling down - such an amazing noise.

I was lucky enough to see it on one of its final flights, it was following the Bristol Channel. God bless him, the pilot was playing to the crowd and that bird was making all the right noises! Just incredible.

Great video! So sad that 2015 is her last year of flying.
Yeah, my favourite aircraft of all time including blackbird. It will be really sad to see the last of Cold War Britain disappear.

+AlmightyBanger Where by "plenty", you mean "three, assuming XH558 will be maintained in that condition."

I think it was 2014/15 I was staying at my parents who lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere. I was enjoying my morning coffee outside with my dog and heard this demon like sound, looked up and saw this Vulcan fly right over the top of us. It then climbed steeply, banked right and did a long loop and came back over the top of us, I remember the feeling of my rib cage rattling! It was my birthday that day and that was the best (surprise) present I've had

One of the mos tbeautiful planes on the planet. too bad it is retired. For some reason it really scares people due to the sheer size and sound. Far ahead of its time and a victim of politics. Imagine if they made a mark 2 for current day situations as a tactical slightly stealthy bomber (it is fairly stealthy by accident by the way).

+mugenjouproject The Vulcan B3 - a larger version with longer range ... as a cruise missile launcher - was never built - budget cuts.

Often come back to this video amongst others to get the slightest bit of Vulcan fix. Hearing it through speakers though is heart wrenching though knowing it'll never be above me again and it is of course not the same

So I watched this twice, once I put on my headphones and the second time up to my surround sound system and HOLY SHIT! You guys, if you have a Bluetooth surround system, listen to this on that!
