You are a breath of fresh air among all the tech KZbinrs. I know other KZbinrs who have the same style as you, unedited, just you talking. And I know they speak from experience and not from marketing. Thanks a lot for the advice

Can you share some of them?

So much value in your videos regardless of the topic. Remarkable humility and franchise.

As someone who got a job in the tech industry in my early 30s two years ago, and who is now totally lost in the industry, I can say your thoughts as a senior developer are highly appreciated. Thank you for sharing your valuable thoughts.

You didn't mention it very much I think, but that's what leadership is about. A leader is putting himself out there, and has to be willing to be vulnerable. It's a vulnerable position to say "I think this is the way to go" and having to eat crow if it doesn't go well, and having to fix it if it actually goes badly.

We're a similar age. This is really, really good advice. Personally I learned this lesson too late and I always struggled with exactly the same things. Fear of rejection, failure, risk. But once you build up confidence to make decisions or consult decision makers with very clear assessments, it becomes a super power. Still, it takes a lot of practice, reflection and feedback (from those who you respect). I sometimes lose the grip and have to re-focus, so thank you for reminding me and articulating it so well and honestly.

I like the unedited, no nonsense style of the videos.

I really enjoy this video. I bet many engineers have similar meetings that ppl will criticize idea for very loong time, not having any other idea to compare.

You may be hesitant about decision making because you are a bit perfectionist. List all pros and cons you see and this is all you can do. Vulnerability is the power and I see you calm and in peace. I like that you can do much more without previous experience when you keep the same position for myself.

You're on the money there, I've struggled with perfectionism for a long time and I'm just starting to overcome it now. Only wish I had gotten there earlier!

I've been struggling a lot recently with similar feelings. It really helps just to know I'm not alone in that sort of "emotional dysregulation". I don't know what it might be, maybe it's just being human. I find that when I contribute to OSS, I strive to have a "perfect" PR, a perfect implementation that doesn't need any tweaks. And when it's inevitably not (or worse, it's the complete wrong solution), I feel like I failed. I have some things to think about. With that said, I appreciate you making this and other videos. I feel less alone, and you've encouraged me to take some time to think about things.

I've followed to hear a perspective. Ofc it's subjective. But what's objectivity than the sum of subjective opinions. Just keep posting whenever you feel like you have something worth sharing.

Bro you have discord server?
@davidhart15783 ай бұрын
Not at the moment but it's a good idea. I'd like to have a place where people can discuss ideas, share jobs etc so I'll look into setting something up. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'd join. Not that I think discord is great. I'm more like IRC but whatever. See you there at some point.
