I really like the two levels here. One is that they obviously on some level like each other. The other is the formal assassin-superhero level. They communicate on the friend level, while their actions are a lot on the assassin-superhero level. When Kate slaps Yelena, Yelena is surprised, because that slap has no function on assassin-superhero level. It's not defensive nor effective in stopping Yelena. It's just a slap, which is sort of violation of their personal connection. On a personal level, they like each other, so why the slap? Kate isn't that professional in assassin-superhero level, so she mixes a personal attack, slap, into a professional assassin-superhero level.

I think Kate reminds Yelena of her sister. Both of them are bold risk-takers who remain surprisingly optimistic about life despite having a poor or non-existent relationship with their biological family. Obviously, the two were/are close with Clint, which Yelena sees immediately. Kate and Natasha even have the same sense of humor, I think. I hope Yelena becomes like an older sister to Kate going forward.
