Hey everyone,
This time we have John from Fleeting Image's VW Amarok in for a much needed navigation and media overhaul. So in with the alpine perfect fit designed specifically for the Amarok itself to house their 8" Navigation head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

is there a not a more elegant solution for the DAB aerial ? There has to be a better way than sticking to the windscreen next to the A pillar. Do you also do alarm solutions that integrate with the factory key fob ?

It uses the internal mic in the face of the unit as it in a pretty good spot in these. They have the option to do internal or external 🙂 Hahaha yeah I took a bunch out, then Sam said na put more in 🤣 Thanks Clint 😁

Hey mate. Great video. This made me Get this in my 2021 Amarok. I can’t for the life of me get the custom start screen to work. What image did you use? I’ve followed the manual but it just won’t load. For the factory usb. I gutted the case and hot glued in the extension usb. Worked out great.

As for the opening screen, pm me on my instagram (@jaystanderwick) and ill see what i can do for you. There are a couple of tricks to get the unit to see the opening screen and load it 😉

Yes it does, even the navigation directions come up on the mfd as well 🙂

Hey mate I’ve spent days searching for this answer but haven’t found anything and don’t wanna pull it out just yet but does the stock Amarok stereo have an rca output or do I need to run a line out ? Wanting to install sub and amp but can’t find any information on it anywhere ?

The factory unit does not have rca out so you will need either a line converter or even better a DSP (digital sound processor) for optimal results 🙂

Hey, i got a couple questions: 1. Does this head unit work with the 2021 amarok 2. Does the usb with Amarok bootup on it come in the box (wondering if i can install it myself) or do I have to get an auto electrician to do it. Thanks

It should be compatible yes, we actually have a 2021 booked in next week for the same kit :) If you buy the unit through us, we can pre load the unit with the boot up screen 😉

Hi Vinh, Thank you 🙂 It doesn't come in the kit, I make it myself, and yes it is plug and play. The factory camera is powered by the reverse signal, so it's just the video signal that needs to be picked up 🙂 I need to work on the usb retention as nobody seems to make one at the moment. The one that everybody lists didn't work for that Amarok

All of the information on the central MFD display in the instrument cluster remain the same. It will retain radio information and if the car has factory navigation fitted, the turn by turn will also come up on there too 🙂

In that plug that you see me probing in the video, you will see a coaxial lead running to 2 pins, they are the ones. They only work while in reverse too 😉

Following your video i have had everything work and the increased output makes even the average stock speakers sound pretty good but cant track down the issues i'm having with the steering controls

Thats a great question, this is an Aus version so im not sure of the equivalent available over there. I would say to have to look on the Alpine UK website and the if there is a part for vehicle solutions. You should be able to find dealers on the UK website, or possibly purchase direct 🙂

Thanks mate, they really do look awesome!! Alpine are the only ones that I know of that do an 8" dash peice like this to sit flush. You could do it with a tablet style unit, but it won't be flush to the dash like this. I have seen other 'ebay' style units, but they are all rubbish lol. You can go with a standard double din style unit but they generally don't interface as well as the alpines do, like with the cluster display for example 🙂

Unfortunately I don't, this one is my old faithfull and been around for a long time hahaha. @@arealisticapproach DAB is digital radio signal. The electrical noise that dash cams eminate will interfere with the reception. Those stick on antennas are very susceptible, a better antenna positioned further away would mitigate there problem.
