Oh man, this video brings back painful memories of when I put all the tins back on after an engine rebuild, then installed the engine to realise the crank pulley tin was forgotten 😢 hours wasted and knuckles skinned! It's small and only held with two little cheesehead screws/bolts but its essential to put on before the pulley for certain!
@SladesVWBeetle7 ай бұрын
Oh, trust me, I did that many years ago. And the worst part I forgot the little heat shields that go between the push rods and piston jugs. I had to pull the heads back off and the push rod tubes. 😁

Yes I do. Just a heads up. The tin behind the pulley, and the tin in front of the pulley, needs to be a matching set. Unmatching tins won't mount up correctly, and will have air gaps to let hot exhaust air, back into the engine bay while going down the road.
@SladesVWBeetle7 ай бұрын
Yes, you’re absolutely right my friend. I have to get a different tin for in front of the pulley, technically speaking. I don’t like the one I have.

Aftermarket crankshaft pulleys, are smaller diameter compare to the stock pulley. There is only one aftermarket pulley that is the same diameter as a stock pulley. I don't have one to confirm.
@johncollinsworth67547 ай бұрын
I sourced mine from CB Performance. They market it as the same diameter is the stock pulley. The description was 1887 7” Billet O.E. Style Crankcase Pulley. I had to get a new one as I bent the hell out of my original pulley and the puller (same one Slade used) getting it off. However, I had to heat the new one to install it even after polishing the internal diameter as Slade demonstrated. If I ever have to remove it I’m going to make a puller like the original VW puller.
@vintage76vipergreenBeetle7 ай бұрын
@johncollinsworth6754. The CB Pulley is the one I heard about.

For those who have open motors, Baja or dunebuggy, you can fix the wobble(stock pulley) with a rubber ballot while the engine is running on idle. Just lightly hit the pulley every second until the wobble is gone. Enjoy!

Hi,on the flywheell locking tool,one side is for 6 V and the other is 12V ,did you check both?
@SladesVWBeetle4 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly, one side is for 6 V. I think the one I bought though, wasn’t made properly. I had to mess around with a 12 V side and fabricated slightly. I don’t know if they make better ones but I probably bought a generic one.

Oh man I"m just sick now, I have removed my distributer and have been turning my pulley to see the cam lubes and lifters inside for ware. Do you think I've damaged the gears and should i put the distributer back on to remove the pulley?
@SladesVWBeetleАй бұрын
@@benntn oh no, I’m sorry to hear that, it’s possible that you could have. I don’t know without being there, my friend. I know I repeat myself a lot and videos, but that is one thing I bring up a lot. Do you know why? I did that many years ago by accident. But don’t panic, just try to inspect what you can with a flashlight, if possible to see if the gear got damaged.
@benntnАй бұрын
@@SladesVWBeetle Thank you sir. I have not inspect the gears yet. But should I still reinstall the distributer before I try to remove the pulley nut.
