Warm up the paint , cold paint doesn't coat easy, doesn't flow or stick right and takes longer to dry/harden.

Not if the body isn't braced it will flex out of line and weaken.

I always take the old brake lines off in one piece. Then they can be used as a template for all the correct bends making it easier for install of the new ones.

On the weather strip molding, what about using stainless steel flat head machine screws or counter sink rivets. Thinking that, most people get the standard pop rivets that have the crown around the shaft. Note: once the shaft is removed, that leaves a hole to deal with. You could possibly use a small counter sink bit and make the indention and place the machine screw or rivet (solid rivet like aircraft use) to hold the molding down. There is also a counter sink pop rivet with the shaft, but again might leave a hold for water to leak through into the trunk area. With a screw in the hole and a nut on the inside of the hood area could give you a better seal and smooth surface. Just some other thoughts. Thanks

Thank you so much keith I truly appreciate you chiming in. The rails just made it today, so I’ll be starting on that in a few days, at least the starting process. I ended up buying some stainless steel prop rivets since I know the rubber will hide the rivets. Not sure if I’m going to use them though. Thank you so much for being here my friend I truly appreciate it a lot.

Thanks Nate, I think it’s pretty close to the same. We just do the best we can to protect our metal. Especially with northeast side deal with a lot of rust here. I hope you’re doing well brother.

Stainless steel rivets. Aluminum is dissimilar metals and electrolysis will weaken aluminum over time. Question 1974 Super beetle, what size tires would you recommend for stock, currently have 165 80 R15. Thanks
@johncollins5552
@johncollins5552 Жыл бұрын
That's the best size for up to 90 hp aprox, any more and you can benefit from more width at the back but 165 should be fine up front, bugs are so light upfront.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
Truthfully the 165/80 as stock for the Beetle. Sometimes I go a little wider in the back, but I keep the same diameter.

One thing you should also mention --- If you are down under --- wear some OLD clothes --- you will get it on you -- and it's NOT coming off ---- Yeah --- working under the car is never fun ----- Wait till you are my age ---- and say that same line you said in your video -- Then you can say --- Blah -- Blah -- Blah ---------- Thank You for the Video -- Rodney

Those replacement ribbed panel behind the rear seat are real expensive to buy a new, inferior metal. Really best avoided. I havent ised rust bullet before but pretty much every rust preventative product I used in the last twenty years has been snake oil! Reason being before in the good,old days more effective products were real toxic and bad for the environment, so todays products are real lightweight, watered down products in my experience.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle Жыл бұрын
Funny, you brought that up John, I was just saying to someone recently about the products we have now compared to when we were young. Rust Bullett has been pretty good on my buddies truck frame for about the last seven years so far. That’s the only thing I can verify at this point. When they removed their so-called hazardous materials from a lot of products, we lost the durability.
