Piper Dream. That’s a cool name. You might want to do a video on how to safety wire the carburetor inlet pipe. This inlet pipe is merely a press fit, and once it has been loosened enough-from owners removing the inlet hose, or from age and vibration-gas shoots everywhere. I had Tim at Volkzbitz replace my stock inlet pipe with a threaded barb. It cannot come loose. But in lieu of this, safety wiring will do the trick.
@SladesVWBeetle3 жыл бұрын
That is a very cool name honestly! Yes that would make for a good video, because those pipes like to slide out of the carburetors. Tim is a top gun at that stuff. He’s the best! Everybody I know that’s got a carburetor done by him is so happy. And the threaded Barb is a great step up!
@michaeld.37793 жыл бұрын
Slade, there’s a photo somewhere on the samba that shows how to safety wire that carburetor barb. That would be much more likely than owners creating a threaded barb.

Ive never seen one of those brackets. Thats about where my filter is located. I also have one under the gas tank before it goes into the tunnel also. Unfortunately I lost a low milage, all original 67 bug several years ago from a fire. My neighbor bought the car brand new. I owned it about 6 months before it caught fire. Complete loss. The neighbor cried when the tow truck brought the car back to my house. That is the first thing I change on any new acquisition. Great content.

I like the idea of the metal fuel filter but you have to be careful of the install location. If you put it to close to a header it will collect heat and cause vapor lock. Now, that filter bracket is a neat trick, I've never seen one.

Avoiding a fire is always top on the list for safety. Boat fires are a scary thing for sure. Always test out motors and look for leaks before heading out on land or sea. A friend of mine lost his jet boat in 300ft of water. He borrowed a friends kicker motor to do some trolling on the Puget Sound here north of Seattle. He went to start it up and caught fire. Instead of grabbing the fire extinguisher that was on the boat he dumped the cooler water and ice on it. It put out the fire briefly but spread the fuel everywhere. The fire started again but spread quickly. Fortunately everyone was able to get off thanks to a shrimp boat nearby. All he could do was watch it burn and sink. Afterwards thinking about that fire extinguisher he forgot was there the whole time

Hello, nice looking Bug. Hey, instead of cutting the gas line tube, why not just lope the rubber gas line ? Or what I did , where the California smog control sits up on the left side up where the wire come into the back for the engine. Then past the ignition coil to the carb. Sits there real nice. Easy to get at and you have to jack up the car to get to it.

Thanks for being part of community, and for taking the time to comment. You don’t have to use the metal one, I just like it better. Looking at the size of the metal one I’m not quite sure it’s going to fit in that bracket. The metal one would be best without the bracket. But it can be used on any year, it’s just a much sturdier filter. But if you’re using that bracket the plastic ones would be just fine.

Bugs never caught fire. Just all the JC Whitney mods hurt the reliability. There is a screen in the tank and a fine screen in the stock pierburg pump. Pump screen to be cleaned at each oil change. Cheap fuel pumps, cheap carbs and cheap distributors really hurt the reliability pf these great cars.
