Many moons ago I used to have an Independant VW garage. This was back in the day when a bug could be picked up for under £100. Customers would run them on a shoestring and the welding 'repairs' are typical of the times. Now they're sort after the effort to make a proper repair makes more sense. Plus the new repair panels that were not available back in the day make the job a lot more feasible. Love watching your channel Al 😎😎😎😎

In my native NZ we would sometimes get a few American assembled mk1 beetles that would have EFI in the rear enginebay. Auto electrician hated to be on their hands & knees with an America 🇺🇸 service manual. Good luck Al with your resto 😊

I'm loving this ,it's nice to see someone else who welds the way it should be done I love fabrication and putting it back the way it should be , I don't get that many jobs these days but remember back at the jobs I have done like a moggy being one of the worst and first lol . These days I'm just on call for commercial jobs really but it's ok I still like to stand back at the end and say look at that weld and grin to myself about how pretty she looks lol. Really enjoying the videos and I know and appreciate how much time you put in especially as your doing this on top of running your buisness thankyou

Just finished the video, little annoyance called work got in the way. Your sum up was spot on. My daily is a 1995 celica, not perfect, has been welded, not by me as I am skill deficient in that area, amongst many😂 however at 156k miles its barely run in. I wont throw away a perfectly useable car just for something all blingy flashy and with the personality of a toaster.

Eyup Al. Good vids, thank you. Mate of mine back in the 1960s bought his first car, a morris 1000. Looked brilliant and all undersealed. Tok it for its test and the tester'spreferred weapon for rust control was a big screwdriver. He was a bit upset after a couple of prods at a cross member a large lump of concrete dropped off and lamped him. The chassis there had been filled and undersealed. It didn't pass.

Al, Cracking video as always. A great amount of car and van content with awesome footage and explanations to what was or what is needed to be done. Can’t beat a classic. It’s amazing that a shiny exterior can hide the rot that can be hidden underneath. You and Fudge have got a lot of work ahead on the Beetle but that will be sweet when the body work is back together.

Geronimo got love a vw beetle. 😊. He has had some shocking repairs. Doug has had some nice work. My tester is 45 trade but always pay £50 so he can get himself a pint. We did a morris minor in the Garage where I used to work a few year's back. It was a lot of grinding.. Never good when one side of the axel is further forward than the other. Cracking work on them Al 😊

Great Video 👍 you do some solid work. I think MOTing an exempt Classic is a great idea, if i owned one I would for sure. It gives peace of mind, plus it would ensure no come backs if it was involved in an accident or incident. I would recommend it to all your Classic Car customers.

Great video Al. I live in south Spain and rusty floors, sills and wheel arches are rarely seen, even on Ford Transits and Mercedes cars. Glad to see you are up on the French Registration system too. Often thought of buying a rot free classic here and taking it to the UK for resale, but Brexit has made it too complicated and expensive. Looking forward to seeing these restorations, plus your everyday work fixing vans.

Couldn't agree with you more Al , I've got a 1975 BMW 3 litre , had it for 40 years , had ongoing bits repaired as necessary and I'll keep it til I snuff it , what's the point of replacing it every 5 years when it's perfectly good , and surely it's gotta be better for the planet to keep it going as long as possible

40 years ago [AARRGGHH!] i worked for a double glazing company in Salisbury, in was a 'boy' so i was learning .We went out to an asian guy to fit some big upvc doors who had rejected previous doors we truied to fit for he checked out the reinforcing using a magnet! asyou check for filler. He said thre new ones were not reinforcede due to his magnet test . We has management out there to convince him but to no avail , he was not having it . Even when told the reinforcing was aluminium ,! he still trusted his magnet!

Lots of people just weld in new patches or sections as they come. Nobody ever seems to spray wax into any section it will fit in or even treat Sid metal with undercoat or paint of any description. End result is, the rust problem just comes back and generally in a larger area.

Interesting to see the Renner, the tack it on the back reminds me of the Matra Rancho which had the arse tacked on to extend the body. Seen this with some other French coach builders, seems BAU !

Great video as always. Great to see the cars/vans being repaired right. I worked restoring classic vdubs for a few years, the bodges we came across were unbelievable (one I vividly remember was the heater channels completely made of filler. I stamped on the floor and it detatched from the heater channel. It had a fresh Stevie Wonder MOT too, some absolute heart breaking ones too where people were royally tucked up buying a 'solid one').

That was simply "fascinating" My Mother had a light Blue Fiat 500 many years ago and indeed it was very rusty and deemed to be worthless at that time, how I wish it was kept rather than scrapped. If you were to buy a new car today how would you go about protecting it from becoming a victim of rust and early grave? Or is there nothing that can be done?

The problem with classic cars now is the 40 year old mot exemption, i dont trust dealers at the best of times because they usually have a "friendly mot man" but with exemption its 100% worse I went to look at a mini someone had bought from a dealer and the selling point was it hadn't been on the road since the 1980s, it had the 1980s tyres still on it! clear rust underneath with carpet just stuck over it on the inside to cover it up in the boot it needed thousands spending on it but they made it look nice to flog it on
