Looks good. I agree, it’s a fair trade off - a bit of noise/vibration for reliability. Besides, if someone’s worried about a bit of noise, a vintage vw bus probably isn’t for them in the first place. :) Happy 2020, to you, gents.

Wonder if you might know if there's a trick to getting the old coupling out on a 67 bus? As I put it in 3rd gear then disconnected the bolts then shifted it back to 2nd, thinking this would give me enough room to wiggle it out but no luck. And I know if I remove the front coupling I should be able to get it out but I seem to remember doing this before without having to do that. Any advice would be really appreciate it, thanks

Does anyone know if this Subaru swap can be done on a reduction box '61 Single Cab? Did you see the guy who did the 300HP Subaru swap? I would think that he would need to carry a spare transmission with him on long trips! I mean, i know that VW built these transmissions to be stout, but for Mike's bus in progress for example, is it a stock drivetrain setup? Or an IRS swap vehicle? I guess I should go search Samba!

We are using benco tranny setup (swing axle), built tough and for modern highway speeds. Been great so far, sure it will handle it. Thanks

I’ve a Chevy V6 4.3 Roller motor pushing at least 300HP. 9 rib. ERCO redid the Transaxle with hardened gears & bolstered the internals.

Dissimilar metal corossion...aluminum and steel don't get along..

Mostly a matter of electrolysis between the two metals. Usually preventable buy shielding it from moisture. Protect it with grease or RTV would prevent it well enough. Though, if I had a say, the part would be better if it were steel. Weight is a non issue vs strength.
