I was having problems constantly and repeatedly tightening the Volkswagen clutch cable on my 1968 VW Type-3. Usually that means the VW clutch cable is beginning to stretch. While performing the VW clutch cable replacement I realized that VW Beetle clutch cable replacement is the same process as a VW Karmann Ghia clutch cable replacement and a VW Thing clutch cable replacement... with only one minor exception, and that was that I could perform a the VW clutch cable adjustment from the engine compartment using my special clutch cable wingnut tool socket.
VW Bus clutch cable replacement is a little different, and that will be covered in another video at another time.

Thanks for posting, really helped me with the clutch cable replacement on my 74 Jeans RHD. Pedal cluster is very different on the RHD but the process is the same. I would recommend though, a new bowden cable at the same time and have a spare 'accelerator lever to rod' 8 x 0.80mm circlip. My bowden cable was shot, there was no way the clutch cable was going to slide on in there from the feed tube at the tunnel opening. Circlip snapped on me when trying to reinstall. Great stuff thanks again.

Hey thanks much, I've never worked on a right hand drive. I've only read the technical manuals and looked at the diagrams. Very interesting how Volkswagen decided to do it, and almost appeared to be in a sort of Band-Aid fashion rather than re-engineered. But that was Volkswagen, for ya! Thanks for sharing, my friend!

Excellent timing once again, my beetle cable started stretching on Friday and I went to adjust it and found it frayed at the transmission end. So I ordered one Friday with expedited shipping, but since it’s Friday the dope smokers at the VW place didn’t ship so I didn’t make it on Saturday, I assume it will be here Tuesday lol.

I hope you got the gas peddle adjusted good later on, but glad the clutch is all great now. Looked like a lot of work but you enjoyed it but the dang stupid phone calls LOL I have a cat usually so the rats dont take over. My last cat killed a big ole rat at my door step he was a good kitty cat Tom boy. Someone stole him he looked exactly like Garfield. dang pisses me off. I know who did it too. Said they wanted him and a few days later he was gone. I think I may have a new stray but it sure is shy dont know if it will ever be a petting kinda kitten. Never know it might begin to trust me. I fed him he was starving and today last I saw he was living under my shed. I am working some out there welding on a solar tracker and next my wifes lawn mower gas tank bracket. I will train him up and he will be my loyal buddy. Makes me nervous welding that close to the tank. I think I will fill it with water and then rinse it out it needs a douching out anyway its full of buggers I will kill two birds with one stone. But the new kitten may kill my chickens so far none of my cats have done that because I let them know I aint putting up with that and they leave my birds alone.

Hey duckman is the thing transmission different from the beetle I just got a 69 baja bug with an AM engine I'm wondering if they also used the transmission. Ok just looked its a MC transmission so type 3 or 68 fastback?
@DuckmanCycles
@DuckmanCycles 3 жыл бұрын
The transmissions were mostly the same (on the outside) but some Things had a limited slip differential. However all Things had Bus output flanges that can be easily swapped to Beetle ones or vice versa. You can check the number on the transmission and find out what it may have come from.

Need help in Northern Utah. I recently became partially paralyzed on my left leg from the hip to the knee. Everything I own to drive is a standard, I'm grounded at the moment bc I can't use my L leg. I need a manual duck clutch conversion installed on the floor shifter in a 95 Honda Civic & in an 86-87 Nissan Base model ¼ton truck. Is there anyone here that can do this in N Ut? Shops here all say no. & Where can I buy a good conversion kit? Only VW & John Deere came with those!
@DuckmanCycles
@DuckmanCycles 10 ай бұрын
Hi there! Not so much the best place to ask since most of what we do is VW stuff, but one of my viewers copied my motorcycle hand clutch idea, with the lever and master cylinder mounted on the shifter into a brake booster. I'm pretty sure your Civic has a hydraulic master cylinder. Are you technically capable to cobble together such a thing? Hope that helps!
@colettehadlock6434
@colettehadlock6434 10 ай бұрын
@@DuckmanCycleson the Honda yes it's a hydraulic, so slave cylander would likely do it. On the Nissan it's all mechanical, so I was thinking at looking at what a John Deere part looks like.. but would likely have to incorporate something like a slave cyl also. I'm just getting started. Getting down into & back up off the ground or anywhere near it has been nearly impossible & I'm trying to prevent further damage while I heal, which may not occur. The 1st 6 mos is critical.
