Not just the auctions houses, AutoTrader needs to update the specs to deal with electric cars to include charging speeds and official range at the very least.

I'm sitting in a 2016 e-Golf SE (the affordable, stripped-down version) that doesn't have a heat pump. It really doesn't matter much. The heated seats are fantastic. The resistive heater doesn't need to be on often, except in winter. I noticed that the car needs to be in "Ready" drive mode to work: even if the display and lights tell you it's on, it doesn't operate unless it's in driving mode.

Thanks Jonathan. Absolutely right; it should not be difficult to ascertain basic information about a car, whether pre-owned or new. Charging capabilities and heating methods are about as basic as you can get, alongside fundamentals such as battery size, motor power, warranty, etc. Never mind about the more frivolous things, such as Bluetooth, cup holders and the like.

Everyone knows EGolf SEL Premium has a heat pump and DC fast charging, and The EGolf SE has no heat pump that's why it's not listed. That's what your paying for with the Premium model 👌 the heat pump increases the range of the EGolf by 30%. In the cold with a 2019 SE no heat pump model you could get 87 miles and with an SEL Premium with a heat pump in the cold you get 112 miles range with the same trip. You only have to confirm the fast DC charging on the SE model because the DC fast charging comes standard on all SEL Premium models. That's why you pay more for the Premium for better heating and 30% longer range battery life due to the three times more efficient heat pump that comes standard on all SEL Premium models.

Had an e-golf for 2 years, no heat pump and this was the main reason I sold it. Great in the summer but really really bad in the winter. Not even VW understood how to service this car. EThey don’t call it a service only an inspection as there is not much to look at. They try to over charge you so be aware. No ordinary used car sales understand EV’s, I can list you loads of issues that you will come across. Welcome to the world of EV’s!! Would never go back to petrol or diesel though!

Educating auction houses and even new /used car dealers about electric vehicles is necessary. Maybe do a video of what pictures / information you would like to see on an EV for sale and send it to them. Give them an easy example to follow or possibly produce a template / checklist and email them.

vw pr code 9M3 is with heat pump and 9M0 without. I don't know if there is a free vin decoder that can list all pr codes, but anyone who has access to vw parts catalogue (etos/etka or even partslink24) can see the pr codes for a specific vin.

Like a air sourse heater, very efficient and very fast in giving heat , the resistor heater takes longer to heat a water system and pump it through a matrix behind the dash, and take more power over a heat pump
@backwoodsbungalow96744 жыл бұрын
Good question; heat pump is the device used in a fridge or air conditioner. In an EV, a heat pump uses less electricity than a simple resistance heater, in mild weather.

A very justifiable rant. My 2018 e-up has one - and as my first EV, (and first aircon) I wanted to know about them and how much power they consume/how they work etc. Like everything these days its near impossible to get information like that. I bought the VW workshop manual for it which is stuffed full of elfin-safety warnings and information about the non-EV variants as well as other VW cars!! but stuffed empty of useful info and nothing about the aircon/heat pump. It is otherwise a great little car with a real-world average range over 2 years of 95 miles. In summer 5.5 to 6 miles/Kw is often possible and that is with hills, mixed road types and not being slow. But I do warm it while plugged in in winter and avoid long heating use. In summer I open windows instead of using chill from aircon.

@@JonathanPorterfield I have owned two e-golfs. One with 24 kWh without heatpump and the new 36 kWh with heatpump. And my opinion is that the heatpump is more important for the 36 kWh version, since the difference in range is bigger. In the case of Tesla the heat pump is less important since the car is bigger and have a lot higher energy consumption anyway. So the extra energy consumed by the heater makes less difference to the range.
