I prefer the shift handle. With a shift handle, you don't even need to look down at all to choose your gear. You've always got somewhere to stick your awkward hand when you're not two handing the steering wheel.

i actually lowered my seat; mine is US 2017 with the larger batteries. Like it so far. I like the OCD recharging options as well. I average about 120 miles on a charge with about 25-30m to spare; i have only taken it down to a little under 10m charge left. I like the seats better in my dirty TDI Jetta i traded in.

@Battery Life - enjoyed your review. You appear to be quite tall so maybe ANY Golf makes you feel a bit claustrophobic? Perhaps the endless beeping can be disabled. Otherwise IF we don't need longer TESLA like range, the Golf offers (in my opinion) better quality seating and handling and joy of driving - if these qualities are important to you then the e-Golf is a winner.

As a rental, I have driven the E-Golf several times, to know its core problem: Its not crap or good, its a missed opportunity by VW. The Range is just to small to use it as a realible dailydriver and yes, the range drops too fast as soon as you try to use the E-Golf like a normal Golf. If it woul have only 100 km (60 US miles) more range, it would have been a seroius contender to be my frist E-Car.

How far do you drive on a daily basis? I need around 40km a day. If we visit relatives in the evening and i drive the kids to sport its around 80. If i throw in a dentist appointment i need around 100. i never use more, except we travel somewhere. A neighbor bough an old (very old!) nissan with around 90km range in the summer [50 in winter], and it’s an ideal second car for suburban regions. And the golf has much more…

The point missed here is that the 3 design criteria of PRICE, RANGE and EFFICIENCY stand in conflict with each other for every EV ever designed. A valid critique examines how the manufacture balanced the 3 criteria. To say that any EV should have lower price AND longer range AND higher efficiency is not really helpful when the best available technology has been applied.
