Follow up, using this video and my fluke 787 I found the drain to be my comfort control module. it was staying on after vehicle was locked running battery flat. Replaced with another unit and issue resolved!!

Thanks for uploading this video was struggling with same issue changed the battery and still would drain after 2 days did same test found same fault even though mine it’s a mk5 gti ed30 fuses positioned differently seems like a common fault with mk5 vw alarm horn. Anyway thanks saved me lots of money

I've got an Edition 30 with battery drain. The fuse with the issue is F24 under the bonnet (5A). The fuse box seems completely different to the normal GTI and what the manual says.

Hey guys how did you prevent the motion sensor from setting the alarm off whilst doing the tests for the interior fuse box. Would blocking the motion sensors work?

Did you have to bypass the door locks to do this? With the door open, wouldn't the interior lights and dash be drawing power?

Should all the fuses be on zero when tested? If one is not does that mean that its potentially the issue? Sorry I am not good with cars I am really struggling here

So you had the battery hooked back up when you test the circuit across the fuses? A little more detail on that would be nice but I think its clear that we can test the draw of each circuit at the fuse panel. I recall having a bad relay on my fuel pump circuit --- it was weak and would drop the connection / power to the fuel pump and the Golf would stop. Do relays like that ever arc and stick together? I am not sure if they (VW/ AUDI) continued using these relays however...

Hi mate just a quick one, my 10amp fuse in the multimeter has blown this could be why im getting to amp draw readings, would this also indicate the draw is larger than 10amp

I’ve got a mk5 golf too with a battery drain over night, Very similar symptoms to this one when the alarms goes of there’s no Audio only lights and indicators don’t click only flash (unsure if related) Now the alarm fuse was blown I put a new one in and no change at all. Fuse 24 engine bay (10A) Data bus connection drops the draw a little And so does fuse 32 interior (15A) Electric windows Both nearly 0.1 But the alarm draw about 0.04 Any ideas? Measure current on battery and take fuses out :) Find one who corresponds for current draw and check all the devices which are supplied by that fuse

@@Wrublos212 I did just that turned out to be something super simple but because I had a few other symptoms thrown into the mix it threw me of. Was the radio I put a used oem one in and Havnt had a issue since around a month or two. Again thanks for the video it helped pin point the issue!

Greeting I have a problem with the Golf 5 1.6mpi (BSE) 2007. Something is draining the battery. When I pull out 2 fuse (fuse at engine). I found that fuse for (Steering column electronics control unit) or (Steering column function control module) Please help

A fuse is connected in series, how can there be a potential difference across its terminal?? I am confused

Because each fuse has a known resistance across it ( it can't be ZERO resistance because nothing can be zero resistance and its that tiny millivolt potential that gives you a lead into the problem ) . VW have worked out the potential difference across a range of fuses and provided a technical bulletin that allows you to convert the very small millivolt reading to an equivalent milliamp reading. By the way you SHOULD NOT really pull fuses as this could wake your car from sleep mode making the above test irrelevant.

I just called a shop and they said about 5 hours labor to find a current draw! Rubbish also, I won't ever be using them.
