The second I heard the engine in the MK6, I knew it had a VR6. That noise is so distinctive there's no way it could've been anything else. What an amazing machine, I envy that board member. What I wouldn't give for a modern VR6 Golf R. Don't get me wrong, the turbo is fun but the VR6 has earned a special place in my heart and I just love it, lol.

This is inline 6, no V6. VR means verkürzte Reihe (shortened inline). If you look at the crankshaft you will see that it is an inline engine.

Must be low gas quality? The HGP turbo in the MK6 (around 650hp) walks a Lambo Gallardo so this one with 450 hp should still be a lot faster vs standard Golf R's. The actual HGP Mk7 R is a monster and has 740hp from 3.6 Passat CC and R36 and does 0-200kmh in below 8 sec and 0-300 in under 20sec. And there is a 2.0TSi upgrade with 480hp which still does 0-200 in 10 sec...just crazy

Hello Matt A great review of the cars, but you should also do a review of the technical part of the generations, namely the engines. Since there is no information at all about the gen 4 evo.

The whole talk about the fuel isn't technically correct. The horsepower stated by the manufacturer is done with zero timing correction, that is to say the full advance in the base ignition map, under a controlled atmosphere. HOWEVER. The way you guys idle cars in the sun, forever and ever will introduce timing retardation on the base map from higher IATs. The 102 octane in this case will have given you an advantage, because you heatsoak the crap out of the cars you review. You run them back to back and idle them for long periods of time. Hot air means hotter combustion chamber, which means hotter air before compression, so higher likelihood of detonation. Basically, the way the ECU detects a poor grade of fuel is knock detection. If it detects knock, it will back off the timing, thus reducing the power.

Bigger brake disks dont mean better braking, its just way better for tracks because they heat up much slower, if you want more stopping power you need to reprogram/swap the ABS module, get a better brake booster, switch all brake hoses to steel braided lines and most important improve the impact area aka get wider tires.
