Just so you know, I think the ionity chargers have two formats for different battery types. If your battery is on a 400V architecture, the maximum it can deliver is 150kw. It's limited to like 350amps as far as I remember. Therefore ANY car (every Tesla uses 400v batteries) with a 400v architecture, the maximum speed an ionity charger can give is 150kw ie: 400v X 350 amps= 140kw. Why? This is because the amperage is limited to ~350amps. The cables can't take anymore. The reason Tesla V3 superchargers can take more amps is because those are specially designed cables with liquid cooling so that the cables don't overheat and melt. If you want Tesla's 250kw V3 chargers, they are the fastest way to charge a Tesla because they can deliver more amps. 400v X 600 amps = 240kw The only time those ionity chargers can deliver 350kw is when the car has a 800v architecture. Think Porsche Taycan. Because 800v X 400amps = 320kw. HOWEVER, here's the caveat, Porsche suddenly dropped the 350kw from their marketing when they realised they couldn't provide it. It was maxed out at 270kw which is funnily enough 800v X 350 amps= 280kw. Note: the amperage again capping out 350amps because the cables can't take more irrespective of 400v or 800v architecture Note 2: volts X amps = power. That formula explains It all.

Yep, with superchargers even the older x and s would be charging at over 100. This test is stupid and I guess it was to promote the etron. Model 3 would probably charge at 250 easily with v3.

@@odisy64 kwh...you can kick out the h, does not belong there. and the original comment is correct, the limit with most chargers is amperage and he was talking about ionity chargers, you will only get around 140kw with teslas at most ionity chargers. @@tzarcoal1018 without proper cooling you aren't allowed to charge at high rates. Charging speeds are heavily dependent on factors such as cooling and battery type. My takeaways are I am super impressed by the efficiency of the Hyundai as it actually matched the Model 3 - an excellent EV for the money it seems. Once again I'm a bit underwhelmed by the ID4 - its a ground up newly designed EV and its efficiency is only slightly better than a 7 year old Model S. I would have expected clear water between it and the old Tesla. Maybe its something VW can tweak with software revisions but its a surprise to me that its not better.

I was impressed with the fast charging which offset running efficiency in several cases. My main takeaway was this video demonstrates that we have a large number of capable electric vehicles on the market today. A secondary takeaway was that it appears the operating support behind the UK charging system is more developed than the non Tesla systems in the US.

It really shows how much of a bargain the Model 3 actually is, you get dual motors, great accelleration, you get long range and quick charging. One thing to remember is that the Model 3 both charges quickly, as well as it goes far. And it does so with a smaller battery than most of its competitors in the same range bracket and that also means its cheaper to charge. On top of that, you get the supercharger network, where it charges even quicker than in this test. And also with the supercharger network, you can just drive entire europe without knowing the languages and different charging networks everywhere, so I drove from Norway to Denmark and Germany, no issues whatsover, you just plug the car in a supercharger and its ready :-) (the trip was before Korona should be noted!).

This just shows that once these chargers get everywhere ( a couple of years in every motorway service station?) there will be no need for ICE cars for long journeys.

Astonishing video, only 1 thing I wished you thought of is to include the numbers on the video while explaining, it would be much easier to pause and compare instead of replay multiple times the sections of the video. I am talking about the consumption before the charging process.

Very interesting, I wonder if the Audi might suffer from accelerated degradation charging so much faster. With the usual caveats of rapid charging being only occasional and the larger buffer it has.

Great comparison, really detailed info at the end. Would be really interesting to have the battery size, car weight, cost when new and add the beyond zero buffer as this differs between manufacturers. Comparing the efficiency to the weight would be interesting to see if that is always the contributing factor.

@@rubencaixeiro9762 what? 🤣 The future isn't hydrogen. It's electric. There's no jumping electric into hydrogen or anything. We skipped the hybrids. Going to go directly to electric. But it's real slow

@@surajmadhu-techgobbler I think electric will be part of the solution, but like Musk said, anything that has to be mined will run out eventually. So yes, hydrogen or any other source of energy to power an electric motor without a battery will sonner or later be needed. If not something even more complex, but by your reaction to my comment I can only imagine that I am losing my time here.

I really like your videos and this one is sooo good. Thank you all guys, take all those cars and compare them side by side shows nicely how are EV getting better and better. Only thing I don't get.....why you charged up untill original percentage state? Every car has different consumption and size battery so one percent means totally different thing in each car. So obviously you have to charge big etron to 95% to cover distance that Model 3 covers on 65%. Only thing that really matters is distance charged per time in my opinion.

Great test and very fair. I really liked the test that charged to enough to get back. The reality is that I and most people would charge back up to 90% and have some lunch or a coffee etc, so the Audi for me would work better as a long range car due its faster charging speed and lack of tapering. Of course the Audi and Porsche for that matter, use the same architecture and have a buffer in the battery to prevent degradation at fast charging speeds. Cannot wait for more Gridserve centres to open up this year.

All very interesting, however I suspect that most users would use home charging overnight to top up the battery rather than a public charger when time and expense is not an issue. Use the public chargers to go to 60-80% or enough to get to a final destination charger.

excellent video! Thank you so much! Like many people said/wrote already here in the comments, excellent test setup, great information through the actual physical comparison between the cars, in full view! One thing I would be interesting in, but maybe I've overlooked that bit, is the weighed distribution of the cars relative to their battery size, translated to total cost at the charge station? It feels though that the etron is the most advanced brute forcing its way to the number one spot, the long range is highly efficient with its energy, and on a day to day basis, to have a 7 minute charge is almost petrol time... I wonder what the cost would be for a car with a smaller battery capacity, sans brute forcing, charging like the Kona or e-niro and given the fact they are smaller batteries, even though slower, have to refill less and due to their efficient motors their operating costs can be significantly lower? It still took "only" 20 or so minutes to recharge to get home (a full hour though to get fully replenished though, you'd do that at home I suppose). On long journeys the etron would be your best, though most expensive, company to get you at your far away destination. The long range perhaps would offer slightly less frequent recharging requirements? Come and think of it, that might be a whole new strategy game to play with these cars, which tactic to use to get there first, and there being a 1500 mile trip for instance? Thanks again mate, impressive stuff!

Road tripping in the US we operate our Model Y between 15% to maybe 60% Max. We are blessed with SC’er spaced about 75 miles (average) apart on major highways. With a V3 SC’er we are in and out in 15 minutes. Often our BIO breaks take longer than the charging. Charging past 80% is a waste of time and money.

In my ID.3 user manual it says to not use fast charge on a daily basis and to also not charge over 80% unless it's really necessary. All of this considerably reduces the battery life on the long term.
