VW Jetta 2004 EPC light and Gas Pedal Fix

Replacing gas pedal on a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta because of the EPC light. It must've broke there are two sensors in the gas pedal for positioning sensors one checks the other. One must of went bad.

Exactly same thing happened to my 2011 Jetta 2.5L. EPC light came on. dip in power for a second. engine light came on....I checked the code, but then it went away. cleared the code, but hasnt come back. Power is good. Thanks for Posting, you helped me! I went to a VW stealership to see if they knew anything....they were useless.

I’ve just got a couple of things to say... 1. Put your seatbelt on man! It takes like two seconds. 2. Very informative and the picture quality was great for a home brew video. 3. I like that you let the engine warm up a little. That made me happier. I will be trying this out soon and I hope it goes well! Edit: Well, I got the gas pedal, installed it and it ended up not working. I’m going to try the throttle body next and we’ll see what that does. Edit 2: I received the throttle body and it ended up working.

Did you have the same exact issue as him? Im getting an epc light when I hit the gas hard or get up towards 90mph. Reduced power but not too bad. Engine starting to sound like its running rough.

​@@thizzlemane420 No, my issue was with the throttle. At idle the engine would lope from ~800 RPM - ~1200 RPM. The car had absolutely no throttle response which rendered it useless. The EPC light was always on as soon as the car was started. If you'd like I can list the link to the throttle body I got. But, I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with your vehicle. Have you pulled any codes?

@@raviolisauce103 I was told that I wouldn't be able to pull engine codes without a check engine light coming on. Does that sound accurate?

Thizzlemane La Flare Not really, my BlueDriver can pull codes from all system modules. That might be true if it were a cheaper scan tool but, in most cases it should show up.

@@raviolisauce103 awesome. Thats what I like to hear. Most people I spoke with were essentially saying more damage would need to occur before the issue could be pinpointed. Im taking it to a reputable gentleman tomorrow so hopefully he has some luck with it.

The P on after the part number is the latest version as opposed to the older one which had E, upgraded versions in alphabetical order.

this light also can be the crankshaft positioning sensor. which is normally the one that goes is the sending crankshaft positioning sensor unit, not the receiving crankshaft positioning sensor. this also was the problem with my car after about a month of fixing the gas pedal.

I think this question applies to the same issue, I have a 2012 Vw Jetta se with the 2.5L in it and 4 days ago the epc and check came on, limp mode, throwing code P0122 which is the same code but instead of it being your circuit “E” mine comes up as “A” new pedal fix this as well?

@@fantomplayertv5679 turns out it was my throttle body all along, I tried cleaning everything good first reset my check code and still both EPC and check came back, got a remanufactured throttle body off rockauto and bam fixed it, it’s been great ever since, no issues at all, even threw on a cold air intake from injen

Similar issue came up for me. Code P2637, car shows EPC & TC light randomly while driving and goes limp. I purchased a new Throttle Pedal (Sensor) shown in video, but before I even got it on, the car when limp and started bucking violently, this time after getting a full tank of gas omw home to do the job. Car ended up refusing to reset itself (as previously I could let it sit for an hour and itll be fine for weeks). So had to get it towed, totally confused on whats causing this. New Throttle Body, MAF, Plugs, Coil Pack. I appreciate any help if you had a similar issue, forums are no help lol

I own VW Polo and drove for 40 miles without after breakup of coolent supply to engine. I reached home and checked engine oil smell. Getting burned smell does it mean engine is seized? EPC and engine symbols shown on dashboard. Engine is starting normally. Could you advise.

It is the engine management system the EPC light it can also be your crankshaft positioning sensor going bad which ended up happening to my Volkswagen Jetta maybe three months after I fix the gas pedalIt. Normally start with costar easy it was the heart starts that would cause problems or turning on the AC and the engine gets hotter the crankshaft sensor will start to fail and at one point when I turn the AC on the engine shut off. Started right back up that's when I looked into further and found out my crankshaft sensor was going bad

I have a newer 2012 golf and it read PEDAL position sensor not THROTTLE position sensor. I’ve read that these are in fact two different things, however in your opinion do you think if I replace the pedal then I will solve the problem like you did. Or do you think I need a different solution?

What kinda car had issues with the damn GAS PETAL!!! Wtf? I have this same issue but it only happens at high RPM the EPC light comes on and I'll lose power until I clear the codes. I should probably read then and see if it picks anything up.

I have the same obd2 scanner, but mine doesn’t give me codes just the no powertrain dtcs freeze frame. It shows that it’s looking for codes but nothing. Any idea what it might be?

It might be the sensor for the positioning sensor for the transmission.

The other reason why the light would come on is because the transmission sensor which is located on the transmission towards the front of the car closer to radiator. I believe it’s called the transmission positioning sensor if that is working and not working which also happened to my car at Another point after I replace the gas pedal. Replace that sensor and never had a problem after that

More than likely is the positioning sensor for the transmission which is located closer to the radiator in front of transmission I was able to locate it from underneath the car. After I replace the gas panel like three weeks later the light came back on. I also had this happen to my mothers Mercedes and I replaced it on the Mercedes and never had a problem. I replaced it on the volts wagon after receiving the light again never had a problem after
