Half moons were there as an additional means of rear window defog. Same in my 1984 Mexican, however my Mexican was made for Germany where I imported it from.
@VochoTalacha2 жыл бұрын
As a mexican VW enthusiast, I have a few things to say: - Half moons were standard in mexibeetles starting from 1975 or so up until 1995. So they're not "unusual". - VW logo on the hood is not standard on that year. It's been put there from another late model VW (not a mexibeetle) - Headlights are Hella, original and are meant for you to replace just the bulb. The ones in this car are damaged, they should not look darkened. - Bumpers were chromed until 1995. In 1996 the color matching bumpers and headlight bezels were introduced. Actually, this guy installed the very correct bumpers for this year: the ones with thin black stripe. Starting from 1993, the bumpers had a wider black stripe. - The windshield wiper fluid reservoir is the 2nd and last design these cars had. The previous ones up until 1989 had the reservoir hooked to the spare wheel via a rubber strap that stretched and hooked to the spare wheel holes. Those early reservoirs were.usually lost or damaged when using the spare tire. That's why VW designed this other deposit that was installed where you see it. - Indeed the engine has flat tappets. - This car, and this specific year, originally came with factory electronic ignition, and a centrifugal-advance distributor (the 009 electronic counterpart) paired with a carburetor with no vacuum port for advance. This carb-distributor setup was awesome and smooth. I can't quite make it on the video, but the distributor has a weird black patch on its body. Don't know what that is. But I did see the electronic ignition module and original wiring harness for it, but it kinda looped back at the alternator towards the co-pilot side. - Winshield is aftermarket. In some special later versions you would get that one with a blue shade on the top, but is common for.mexican beetles to have their windshield replaced because of rock chips or things like that.

I've been wanting a Mexican VW (Vocho) ever since I went to Mexico in 2005. (My Beetle is a German) At that time, I literally saw tens of thousands of them. They were everywhere. They're still there and they're just not expensive at all. I will get one one day soon and when I do, I will put, "Viven Los Vochitos" across the top of the windshield. That means, "Little Volkswagens Live." This was a great video. Thank you so much for the excellent content.

If I remember correctly the hood didn’t come with a VW emblem. That emblem that’s on there is from a newer Volkswagen.
@pastedtomato2 жыл бұрын
A couple of things from the top of my head. The bumpers are the "correct" ones for this model, color matched bumpers were introduced around 96, it could also had come with "thicker" chrome bumpers (The black trim in the middle is as thick as the turn signals), some had them as early as 91, you can still get higher quality bumpers in Mexico (14 gauge IIRC) for like $100 USD plus shipping. This model year would have come with electronic ignition (introduced around 89 or 90), essentially a SVDA distributor with the hall effect system, think MK2 Watercooled VW The VW emblem in the hood isn't stock The half moon vents came stock in SOME Mexican Beetles, I am not sure about model years, I think they were introduced somewhere in the 80s and removed in the mid 90s. (Our 91 lacks them) The headlight and hazard light switches are from a MK2 Jetta/Golf (Came like this from the factory since 91) Antonio Trejo over The Samba has a lot of parts for Mexican Beetles, you might be able to get Windshield Washer Tank and Pump (and yes, it is stock) from him. Mexican Beetles came factory with front disc brakes since 95, the rotors and hubs are separate parts, making service that much easier.

Nice looking bug for sure. Being a Mexican myself, I can assure you those half moon side vents are in a lot of Mexican beetles because I've seen them myself over the years. I didn't look up the history, but just by looking at several images for reference on mercado libre, seems like 1997 might've been the last year they put them on although I could be wrong. You don't see them on later models though.

Nice Bug. I never understood the titling process For a Mexican bug. Bringing it from Mexico to the states I thought was not easy.
@davidgrason1612 жыл бұрын
It is no different than bringing in a car from any other country. A friend of mine has one of the newer MGs from Britain and some of the soldiers over at Ft. Campbell have right hand drive cars from Japan. It was easy for them and it should not be a problem for one of these. I live in Kentucky and the gals down at my county office have already told me all the steps to getting a Kentucky title and it's very easy. I suppose the particular state may have something to do with it but it's not going to difficult at all for me.

No need to apologize, Slade. We get it. Pretty sweet MexiBug. Those side vents wouldn’t be on a ‘68 though…even if they do assist with the engine cooling, and most of us wouldn’t mind having them ;)

Beautiful Mexi! The side moons ended in 1994 I believe. Vw also ended the chrome trim and bumpers and went to paint to match until the production end in July of 2003. The only exception was the Ultima Edition Beetle. The dash switches and steering wheel are MK2 Golf/Jetta. Don’t overpay for a Mexi. My channel has a video showing what they are selling for in US dollars in Mexico. Check it out!

My wife and I were looking at one, on line, that a fellow had. It was a nice looking car, I dont remember the year right off. I was afraid I may have problems trying to get parts for it. There were no listings, say like at Jbugs for that car. Others said part would be interchangeable, but I didn't know how I would figure what to order so we backed away from it. 😔
