Thank you so much for this it was very helpful. I bought a 1999 VW buggy and needed to change the oil cooler

I will have to do this to my sisters 98 Beetle next week. I'm guessing from the look of the oil cooler that the 2.0 engine is the same. Estimate I was given for the job was 6 bucks for the o- ring and 200 for labor. Thanks for posting this. I hope it fixes her car.

Thanks for the help. Doing mine today if VW has an O ring in stock.

Are you using a high flow filter? that fixed my leak, and tighteniing the loose nut on the cooler.
@michaelb50395 жыл бұрын
This O ring fix is typical in all VW engines. Check with your local VW dealer for proper part numbers. Worth a shot trying it yourself.

Cold started my 1.8t today & it leaked out most of its oil passed this seal. Mine had cracked overnight due to it being very cold here. & im sure its the original. 20 years old

Great video...just what I need to help me....it's a shame I just changed my filter and oil and then realised this leak so will need to let all the oil go again and replace. I'd rather do that than have stains on my driveway

I got all the way to the point where I have the oil cooler housing loose but I cannot get it pulled down far enough to get the gasket replaced . You kind of left that part out and I was curious to how you managed to get that pulled down all the way
@michaelb5039Ай бұрын
I pulled it out of the way, it's just enough. If you don't have enough hose, you would have to remove 1 side of the hose. I did not have to remove either hose.

Great video. Do you know if this will cause the oil to get into the cooling system? Because I just noticed that there is oil in my jetta's reservoir tank. Also coolant system has over pressure. It keeps pushing coolant out of the reservoir. Maybe blown head gasket? No coolant in oil but oil in coolant reservoir. Any suggestions.? Thanks

Head gasket or oil cooler crack. Find what it was?

Hi, and thanks for the video, I am with a VW Golf III Vento TD 1.9 l 75 ch with the oil coller to replace, and I wonder if there is a precise place to slot the little 2 rings of the gasket on the cooler or is there anywhere ?

Hi... Can you tell me if having a bad oil cooler will cause the engine to lose power? for example if i am driving and i accelerate it feels like it's misfiring, but it's not because I don't get any codes that it is misfiring. I did find oil in my coolant reservoir. The dipstick and engine don't have any coolant. Just did an oil change. Thanks! I have changed spark plugs, coils, airflow sensor.

Ok so my 2012 jetta has oil in reservoir, I'm assuming the rubber o ring seal is not the issue , because that's to fix exterior leak . My guess is I need to replace the whole oil cooler assembly ? Thoughts

Sounds like oil cooler to me or head gasket. Find out what it was?

An 1 1/16 socket is the equivalent to do the job. I had to remove the coolant lines as I didn't have enough clearance on the coolant lines to drop it off the oil filter nipple. Note: WTF german engineers? A stupid thermal scavenging assembly to pull heat off the oil that is prone to failure in oil leakage and/ or coolant line failure is just stupid. Just saying. Hiding emission output in subsequent offerings was reminiscent of the folly of WWII. Again just saying. And FA-Q for both. I had already drained and removed the radiator because of other problems I was addressing. A substantial amount of coolant drained from these lines. Have your catch pan ready! I thought the low pressure power steering hose was the culprit. My beetle has numerous issues. I removed the entire front end. Fluid leaks, fans inop, overheating etc. The water pump, timing belt with tensioner are inexpensive on Amazon. Do the thermostat too. It's actually cheaper to buy the stat in a kit. Get the stat (gasketed on the stat body) , the o-ring seal that seals the flange to the block and the flange/ hose(It's plastic) mount assembly together. So many issues with these vehicles. Electronic nightmares as well. Lieb du Herman Goring Faulktards! The flower was a nice touch. Made in Mexico.

My 2002 Jetta GLI VR6 also has an oil leak from the same spot just not sure if its the oil cooler or if i have to replace the seal, i read the gasket/seal looks like an 8 but the one you have is a circle looking one.
@michaelb50396 жыл бұрын
StealthGundamVRX Only way to really know is loo take off the oil cooler and see your VW dealer for the seal. I recommend getting the seal first, then remove cooler.

Can this job b done from the top or does it have 2b lifted? Thanks
@michaelb50396 жыл бұрын
smoothoperator You have to remove the housing from the bottom and work can be done when it’s removed. You don’t have to lift the vehicle.
