Just a suggestion: take a look at your KZbin stats to see where the viewing spikes are. Then cut the video down (eliminating some of the low watch areas between those spukes). Then repost that video as a shorter edited version. See if that improves your view count or watch times etc. Thanks for the content!

This is a prime example of an, "Amateur",if you had strutted the body before you took it off YOU wouldn't be wasting your time doing this,especially since you haven't even finished the body on the rotisserie,(i.e. Rust still on the body,rusted out panel in the floor of the trunk,the entire back section where the engine resides,etc).

If I were you I'd leave it on the rotissere next time you put in on the chassis as its very manouvreable and you can let it down easy with those hydraulics and all you have to do is remove that centre bar...
@danashcroft961

and I know this how??? Because I've done a 1303 from scrap to on the road which it still is, although the engine is out of it at the moment for a rebuild something I have also done many times. and sure I know I will get half assed beetle snobs giving me shit with their overpriced underpowered showpony 50's oval and split window beetles saying why would you bother. But they usually all bought those cars when the beetle was the lowest form of automotive life and they were as cheap as a honda civic is now. nobody wanted them as they were prone to rust and not very reliable as most mechanics dont know the first thing about aircooled engines... But I actually prefer the 1303 (i've driven most beetle types there are and wouldnt have a VW van unless someone gave me one, as what do i need a 55 mile an hour breakdown prone oil leaking headache for with an interior that looks like a kitchen in a 1950's tract home but about 50 times smaller????) When I can drive my Turbo charged Renault Master (the New Beetle Van in about 20 years as they are dirt cheap now here in Europe where I live and lots of them were made so parts will be around forever) and be doing 160 down the motorway blowing off idiot posers in their 60 kmH Beetle camper thinking they are cool...not... As a car as they dont call it super beetle for nothing. But you can never tell VW posers this, they dont want to listen, just advertise their 50's beetles and vans for 40.000 dollars on websites that they are never going to sell as only an idiot would buy one for that price... But the front suspension on those 50's beetles and Karman Ghias with the same torsion bar front suspension as on as on the early beetles and the 1200's are crap...Dont believe me, just wait til you hit a big old American Pothole and you will see what I mean. whereas the Super beetle has Mcpherson struts. Superior in every way except to snobs that want a show pony that won't go faster than 60 miles per hour... Which apart from the model name and body shape is exactly the same principle as the Karmann Ghia. Same floorpan heater channeles and flat floor pan chassis round a central tunnel everything the exact same. But my paint and body work on that one wasnt in that bad shape, so I didnt need a respray, so rather than remove the body shell for no reason I did the other alternative method. Which is where you leave the bodyshell and heater channels on it take the doors off, brace the gap between the a and b pillar (what I did was make a metal bar out of square stock and make a plate on either end that screws into the door striker holes and the upper front door hinge holes thus removing any need to weld anything to anything on both sides) then remove the floor pans or parts of them if the rest is good. No need to remove everything if the metal is good. This giving you good access to the heater channels... Then with the doors braced so the doors gaps in the body work dont move WHILST the heater channel is still on it thus keeping all the door gaps and the body in the right place as its the heater channels that give the body shell rigidity not the floorpans. Then chop out the rusted heater channels to the bottoms of the A and B pillars all the way to the back and then weld the new ones straight in which is why you brace the doors so everything fits exactly where it should go Then weld those back in at the bottom of the A and B pillars mainly and the other appropriate places and repair and replace any parts of the floors that needed replacing lining up the holes in the floor pan with the hole in the underside of the heater channel and there you are ...or alternatively if you are replacing the whole floor pans chop out the old ones totally so there are no floors in the car, then chop out the heater channels with the doors off and braced. weld in the heater channels in the correct spot and if the holes on the floor pans dont exactly line up to the heater channels just make the bolt holes in the floorpans bigger to line up as they will be covered by the underside mounting plates anyways... AND You're All done... For a tenth of the work of removing the shell from the pan and all the hassle of putting it back on again getting it all lined up straight and rewiring everything you had to dismantle (see break usually) to get the two apart. WITHOUT having to remove the body shell from the floorpans and split the car into two parts...as then you also have to remove alot of the wiring also to separate the two and it creates a lot more work than usually needs to happen... A lot more work in some cases. But some people usually those that have never done one in their life or it took them 10 years to complete it SWEAR that you MUST REMOVE THE BODY SHELL FROM THE FLOOR PAN to make a good job of a resto but that is ABSOLUTE NONESENSE... and in most cases a real amateur move... most times and certainly with Beetles for sure the Bodyshell actually never has to even come off the floorpan/chassis. only the wheel arches/fenders usually as they usually rot where they meet the body and at the Bottom of the wheel wells inner and outer both at the rear bottom rear and ...Rear bottom front from all the crap kicked up onto them by the tires... So i am not giving anyone a hard time here or some asshole youtube viewer who sits in his armchair watching you do things I have never done nor never will do. I am someone that has done all of the things that you are doing myself, just not with such space and a fantastic garage as you have...but thats America for you SPACE...that and good tool and auto shops for parts and tools who will rent or give you the use of special tools when you buy parts from them and great independent engineers that you can take things to to get fixed or have made for less than to buy new from over priced beetle parts vendors who all scalp the VW community mercilessly... And wanted to pass this tip onto you. The greatest tip for doing any Beetle or Karman Ghia. and the first and most important question to ask your self the next time you buy any Beetle or Karman The 1.000.000 dollar question. DO I REALLY NEED TO TAKE THE BOODY SHELL OFF THE FLOOR PANS??? or am I just making a lot of unnescessary work for myself by doing that for no really good reason? In this case you were right to as that body shell needed serious structural work doing to it like most beetles and especially Karmans do as they were made out of even thinner metal than the Beetle was and the paint was in such bad shape that it needed fully respraying... But like I said you could save yourself eating a lot of grit by just having the body shell dipped. But so many idiots that buy these rotbox vans and cars can't bear to see 30% to 50% of the metal disappear when its dipped as that was all just NOTHING BUT RUST, but would rather fool themselves they have a viable body shell and build on a useless and frankly dangerous shell which is made out of metal that is about as strong in an accident as paper machee... So they are the two questions Do I REALLY need to take the body shell off and is it worth it AND When i do dip it, how much of it will disappear as rust when I dip it in the acid bath to really get rid of all of the bad metal and structural rot. But once dipped YOU THEN AT LEAST KNOW that all what is left is truly good metal that is structurally sound... AS all sandblasting really does is get rid of surface rust, not the deep seated structural rust an inner rot that makes most of these so called Concourse vintage Beetles and Karmans nothing but vintage deathtraps...

When you come to drop the finished body on to the chassis screw long threaded rods into the 4 corners of the body where it meets the floor pan (front of each door and by the rear cross member) and these will guide the body down into place. Bear in mind there will be a fat rubber insulator to go through. Then start as many bolts as you can without tightening any. Then drop the body down in its final place. Don't obsess so much about lining up when the body is 3 feet off the chassis. Its the last 3 inches that count! Nice job though and it looks like its all pretty straight.

@@CTmoog No sadly not but I have restored a few VWs amongst other classic cars (currently doing a 1978 Mini 1000). When I worked on heavy trucks (semis) we always used long shanks to guide heavy stuff like gearboxes into place. Saves a lot of swearing! If you ever work on cylinder heads that use bolts use longer shanks screwed into the block to guide them down, put some bolts in and then remove the shanks.

I know this project is about DIY, but what about sending the body out for metal and paint work? This may cost more, but frees up time for the other projects you want to work on, let’s you focus on the assembly afterwards, and the metal work (which can be difficult if it’s not your skill set) gets done beautifully. Kind of like the outcome you had on the calipers or having VWDarin rebuild the engine…

I've heard horror stories of how the body to pan alignment is way off on some restos, partly because pan makers don't do a very good job of it. Looks like you're in the ballpark and, with a little manipulation, it should all align pretty well. Just take your time and think it thru before bolting everything down. Will you be putting on the body-to-pan gaskets and mounting rubbers at this time or wait till later?

A good fit overall... You should allow for a quarter to half inch space for the rubber seal to go in between the pan and body. This is where alignment becomes an issue. Though the holes line up between the pan and body, the hole on the rubber seals do not so you have to make new holes into the seal to make things fit. The rubber seal is for water proofing where the body and pan join and for noise/vibration reduction. Ask MikeFN about which seal is best and needs the least modifications to make it fit. He knows his stuff.

Happy New Year William! Thank you! I think once I get better at everything I will be able to get a project done faster and maybe all in once series. There is a bit of a learning curve for me. Parts availability is a major issue right now. I will get the Ghia done this year. I have a 914 type 4 first start video coming out tomorrow. Let me know what you think.

hook a strap to the front end and you can balance it ... tighten strap... you can tie temporary ropes ( or straps 4 ways to keep it from swinging in wind...)

Looks good! Reminds me of when I did the pans, heater channels, package tray, rear cross members, and the lower half of the part that sits on the nepoleans hat. So relieved it all lined up. Don't forget to get some copper tube to back up your sheet metal welds. (I just bought tube at HD, cut off a section, sliced it longways, and flattened it out). Way cheaper.

Great job CT, you deserve a pat on the back. Next step put all the bolts in to line it up then add bracing inside the car to stiffen it then put it back on the rotisserie. At that point she will be stiff and you can cut into her without causing much distortion. Watch Project Binky early episodes to get an idea of what to do.

Good job on executing the body on pan placement , not sure but it might be worth trying an engine leveler to balance the body.
