VW TDI PD Camshaft & Timing Belt Replacement| Part 1

In this episode of TheFadShow I work on replacing the timing belt and camshaft of my MK4 VW TDI PD BEW engine. I inspect the wear and give a detailed how to.

Thanks for demonstrating bew camshaft and lifter replacememt. You don't have to disconnect the rubber fuel hoses (can work around them) or power steering reservoir (move out of the way with hoses attached). Its possible to R&R the camshaft and lifters without removing the tandem pump. To do this, You do need to have the pump slot oriented vertically. This means that BEFORE the cam belt is removed, the engine is rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise to put all pistons at mid level in their stroke to prevent valve contact (mark the belt and sprockets to use as belt installation guides to get the engine back to tdc), then remove timing belt, and then you can rotate the camshaft as needed to orient its slot vertically (which it should be because you rotated the engine 90 degrees from tdc). Now remove the cam sprocket, hub, and cam caps and lift out camshaft. Replacement is reverse of removal and simply temporarily install your used belt using the index marks you made and tension it and carefully by hand rotate the engine back to tdc to install the new timimg belt and related parts and set the timing, using the crankshaft indexing/locking tool.

Most of those replacement cams are cast by AMC in Spain.They are ok.Put a FAI one in mine about 3 years ago.
