Hello first, thanks for share ! Perharps you would be able to help me with one thing. I have a tiguan 2010 and the roller blind as been takin off (been rip) by the driver before me but they is still some metallic spring thing. I think the same as you, that we see at 6:33. So I want to buy a roller blind and it's come with the spring metallic thing, right ?

So question.i have a 2012 tiguan.when the sunshade is fully open.the rear is loose.is the cable attached to the material? Is there clips that pinch the material?what I'm wondering if it's fixable without replacing whole shade.i retracted it all the way back and refuse to use now.ive removed my headliner to fix my drain connection.feelci could do this.but nothing says is cable is part of material or what holds it taught

Hello no the material it's glue to the coil line, that's the guide to keep the shade stretch out, right next to the cable that moves the shade, only solution new shade sorry to say but that is the only way good luck

@@kennyadriankc do you have a decent priced source? Seem some listed as cheap as 80 on eBay.but nervous to go through all that for a bad replacement.. I can get my headliner out in about 40 minutes. Thinking of doing this soon before summer ends

@@kaosfiles007 ok look the shade has to spring coil on each side and a black strip infront of it that goes into the silver metal you don't need a new one , you use the same silver metal , the one that you see going back n forward , the coil that are on each side of the shade the go into a guide line keep shade stretch n the cable attaches to that near the point where the silver line is which keeps everything working

Once you put the fabric in the silver metal you just connect the plastic part on each end n from there back in place right where you take them out

Better way is to remove the blind internally without removing any glass , there are a couple of tricks which once you know them can then result in a whole change over in around an hour . After the first half a dozen I got to take some good short cuts to make it a quick fix .

Thanks for the vid, question tho what was that metal spring thing? Just bought a Tiguan with no sunshade and in the back corner the spring is all tangled up broke looking. Is that built into the new roll shade or do I have to buy a new spring thing? Thanks.

Hello thank you for helping you when you buy the fabric the shade new for your tiguan it will come with the spring it's glued to the cloth

True but what a stupid design , the fabric is only glued to self rolling spring with around 2 mm ,s of glue along the outer side . That design was doomed from day one as the heat will cause the glue to just come away . AND before anyone asks NO IT CANNOT be reglued , its a throw away item and need the whole part from VW . Here In Australia they are around $600 AU but cheaper in the US , also there are some Chinese ones for around $200 , time will tell if they will last as we have used a couple and no come backs so far .

I can tell you that the method you used was a waste of time , we have now replaced over 50 of these blinds in VW Audi Skoda and we have now got the replacement times down to 55 minutes from start to finish . Number one there is no need to remove the roof trim just lower the rear half by removing the rear grab handles and pulling the lining down . The actual blind can be fitted by then only removing the motor / cable covers and the blind housing all done by sitting in the cargo area . I know several guys here in Australia who have now learnt to do them by our method saving many hours of work .

Yes it clip on but they are hard to come off so put some pressure on it will release

@@kennyadriankc To Mobile car repair, When I went to install the sunshade it was to difficult to hold it up and install it in the sunroof. If you remove the whole sunroof assembly and turn it upside down on a table, it makes the install of the shade into the sunroof assembly so much easier. One other thing that I noted is when I installed the plastic ends on the sunshade bar, it was to narrow to start it on both sides, so I spread the plastic sliders from the bar about one eighth inch on each side so the bar had the slightest end play, then I was able to get both sides started without any problem. Why do I keep buying VW's? I know, I know, but I love them and always have but man they drive me crazy sometimes. Got to replace all 4 drain tubes and the sun shade on one of my 09' Tig's, thankfully the other one doesn't have a sunroof. That stupid pano sunroof is just a bad option when you live n the Pacific NW and it rains for six months straight Nov thru April.
