Lord Duckman I used to use a rubber pipe with one end locked with a bolt with a split just above the bolt the other end on the bleed nipple then when you pump the break peddle the fluid squirts out but no air can get back in
@DuckmanCycles Жыл бұрын
Sounds good, but that is why I make a question mark out of the hose, so the air travels up and out, fluid settles in the bleeder. Works really well, especially when only a single person doing a bleed!

Good one on you with the clickbait thumbnail - lol! I agree drum brakes suck. These conversion you do is super good and doing it in the driveway to show people you don't need a shop - genius. I am learning a lot with you doing this just by watching. Super weird that the flex line is under the chassis - never seen that before.
@DuckmanCycles6 ай бұрын
Oh man, another thumbnail lover comment, lol! Yeah not a fan of the constant adjustment of drums, nor the almost complete lack of braking power in the rain. Gotta put the soft line where the pivot point is. Porsche usually put them under the chassis, and this suspension revision was designed by them as a copy of the (then) 911 rear suspension.

I am a Ford guy. So consider the source. With that said, automatic transmissions are controlled by the valve body. The hydraulic slip is installed by each manufacturer as a comfort device. It isn't inherent to the machine. So, buy a shift kit. The shift kit for Fords has an assortment of springs, a drill bit, gaskets, and instructions for stiffening and changing the shift points based on street or strip. You can even get a manual valve body for manual shifting. Then again, I'm not well versed in VW and what mods are available. With a hydraulic automatic the physics are actually quite brutal if you don't soften the transition between gears.
@DuckmanCycles Жыл бұрын
How is this relevant to rear disc brakes? I don't understand
@christophercook7097 Жыл бұрын
@DuckmanCycles it isn't. I heard your comment about that car being an automatic, and your preference for manuals. When I was in my 20s manual was the way to go. But, I rebuilt my C6 with help and then my AOD by myself and realized the potential. I offered what I could, hoping it would help. I enjoy watching your solutions to problems. Great vi deo Duckman i'm going to put disk breaks on my trike just put new wheel cylinders on it and still keeps locking up and impossible to adjust out always pulls to one side no matter what i do and it's also an automatic love it since i'm 74 now and fighting the brakes is too much but when i bought it reverse worked but i took the shifter out to clean up and get the neutral switch wires working and now no reverse ? i bought a new vacume modulator thinking that was the problem but no go just don't make no sense. Would like to send you some pics of it but not sure how to get them to you but thanks for this video i will save it.
@DuckmanCycles Жыл бұрын
Oh man, that's not a good thing. I'm not sure why it would be doing that though, did you make sure that your pistons are moving properly and nothing is binding up? I don't think you should need a vacuum anything on your disc brakes, but a hydraulic pressure valve is usually a good thing which traps just a tiny bit of pressure in the brakes so you need less travel on you master cylinder.

Great video. I am putting disc brakes on my bug now. Did you re-use the same axle seals? Also, does that drum puller work on wide 5 bolt pattern as well?
@DuckmanCycles Жыл бұрын
Yep, the grease seals were fine, re-used they were! Be careful if you run a swing axle though, the seals there hold back gear oil, and not thick waxy grease..... different situation on an earlier car. The drum puller works great on 5 lugs as well, you can find me using it in earlier videos. 😁👍🦆💩
@ObandsBhfacility Жыл бұрын
Do you normally reuse the axle seals because they weren’t leaking? Also I didn’t see you use the paper gaskets. Just curious. I am nstalling rear brakes this weekend. Great video
@DuckmanCycles Жыл бұрын
Keep in mind this is later model stuff and filled with grease, I never find a paper gasket in IRS rear ends even from factory, there is nothing to leak out. On earlier swing axle stuff, however... you need to seal it up real good so that transmission fluid stays in the bearing cover. Paper gasket for sure on early, and make sure you orient that bearing cover in the proper direction, because I believe it has a weep hole on it so allow leakage to escape instead or dumping into your brakes. Hope that helps!

@DuckmanCycles Жыл бұрын
What you're looking for is M10X1mm bubble flare nuts. Since you're going to make your own I suggest the good ones, get some stainless. Don't skimp and get some stainless line as well if you're using the same tools as I am. You'll need about 12 foare nuts for a late model, 14 for earlier model Beetles. Maybe more or less if you do something custom. These are the ones you're looking for: amzn.to/3Q1qhyr
