This worked perfectly for me just like the video shows.

I believe I found an easier method. Just push in a long thin bolt, approx 2-1/2" long, 1/16" dia., down the channel alongside the wiring. There is enough space there if the bolt is not too thick. Need to wiggle it a bit to get it past the spring at the bottom. Slip a wide flat washer on each end -- with a small center hole so the bolt head and the nut will not slip though, and wide enough that it will cover the entire hole on each end of the channel. Then, as you tighten the nut, both ends of the broken mount will tighten firmly together. Orient the broken piece so that it mates perfectly to the jagged edge where it broke. This way, you do not need to tap the hole, do not need to re-route the wiring, and do not need to remove the green connector. (BTW, in order to slip the green connector through the tight hole in the door as you remove the mirror, i found that if you slip your finger in there to orient the connector to be flat against the metal as it enters that tight channel, it will fit and will slip through. Might need a few tries, each with gentle tugging to see if it is oriented right to get up that opening.) Good luck.

Superb video, and a great help when we had to fix the mirror mount on our VW Beetle! Only problem we had was when removing the wires from the green plug under the door panel - we found that the plug itself unclipped and opened up, we then used a pin to press down the tabs on the ends of the connectors, we could then remove the connectors from the green plastic housing. We then tapped out the broken part and used an M10X50 bolt with an M10 nyloc nut on the top - we found that this made your modification far stronger. The job took about 2 hours from start to finish and we used your video for guidance - thanks for posting it, its been a great help to us.

where did you get the repair kit? I can't seem to find the parts. thanks!

There is no "kit" for sale. You just buy the pieces you need. I'm going to Lowes to get what I need. Here is my shopping list: www.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman-Group-10mm-x-60mm-Zinc-Plated-Metric-Serrated-Hex-Flange-Bolt/3024631 www.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman-Group-2-Count-10mm-Zinc-Plated-Metric-Nylon-Insert-Lock-Nuts/3012843 www.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman-Group-3-Count-10mm-x-30mm-Zinc-Plated-Metric-Fender-Washer/3864701 www.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman-Group-4-Count-10mm-Zinc-Plated-Metric-Flat-Washers/999996466 like the previous individual stated, I will not use the M10 tool to create a thread inside the plastic. I will just drill a hole and put a nylon nut on the backside to lock my bolt into place.

Great video to preview inside the mirror itself and for the wiring path. I am about to install a 360 degree Bird View camera system to my Beetle which involves installing cameras to the bottom of the wing mirrors. Many thanks for the video!

Funciona correctamente si sabes un poco y lo haces poco a poco. Yo use un tornillo de métrica 8.

This is the worst car I’ve ever had the displeasure of working on, the manufactures must’ve been on Xanax the entire time during production.

I totally agree with you. I was taking out the garbage cans and hit the driver's side mirror. It broke something in the interior pivot area,so it's just flopping around. Pieces of plastic falling out every time I wiggle it. Trying to find the third screw in the mirror housing is a pain. Still can't find it to get the damn this loose. I'm pretty good at fixing stuff, but the little car has more things that break that I can keep up with. Broken passenger seat adjustment lever, broken interior door pull handles both sides, irratic trunk lever and latch, driver's side headlight sometime goes out. YIKES - - !!!

@@Derpderpson123 LOL This is my wife's 2006 VW Beetle. I finally got it "repaired" by drilling, tapping, and screwing the pieces together. The pivot mechanism is made out of cheap zinc or pot metal casting. I drilled and tapped it to reassemble it. It should have pivoted when I hit it, but being so old with corrosion and brittle plastic parts, it couldn't take the hit. It works now, but it is a rigid rear view mirror housing, but the mirror does work with the adjustment controls. One last thing. I had to remove the drivers inside panel to get to some screws and the cheap thin plastic panel where the pop up lock button goes up and down cracked when I used my palm to drive the plastic lock trees back in the hole. Double YIKES - - !!!

Thanks for the video. Getting the inside door panel off is 5 fasteners and is easy enough. Disconnecting the plug with the 5 wires is easy. I couldn't pull the wiring thru with the plug still on though. To enable easy removal of the harness is not so easy. I'd like to pull the wires from the plug without breaking it. How do you unclip it to open it? edit: I've managed to open it, but pulling the wires out isn't intuitive at all. To enable easy replacement I'll pull a guide line thru. so that the replacement wiring can be pulled back thru. Here's a video re: vw plugs, but not specific to the green plug on the mirror loom. kzbin.info/www/bejne/goGwq5dnhN1kmas
