I picked up one of these recently and I have to say the zoom is incredible. The only issue is that it does not provide 1080p but obviously it's a product of its time. Great build quality.

@vwest7ife The bitrate limitation is to keep the file within DVD-Video specifications. My sister's JVC Everio had the same max limit. It does make it easy to create DVDs from recordings, but not much else. Datarate PAL vs. NTSC is a bit of a wash, PAL may be higher res, but lower frame rate to somewhat compensate for the added resolution.

@vwest7ife Sony also sells "international" NTSC-M units to those outside of the US. My CCD-TRV65 was one. Same exact camera, but has multilingual documentation.

This appears to be a nice little camcorder. I'm surprised Sony gave some upgrades to their newer models although I'm guessing it's to save costs - the automatic lens cover part with lens thread is also used on many of their HD camcorders.

Hey dude, I have the Sony Handycam (CDR-SX45) How does the SX-45E differ from the SX-45? What kind/size of fisheye will work for this camera, do you know? Do fisheyes increase the quality to 720p HD or higher?

Great review! I don't know much about camcorders, and so I appreciate how informative this video is. Also, can you tell me if this camera would be able to plug into a TV and view, (on the TV), what is being recorded, WHILE, it is being recorded? I'm not sure what that feature is called, but I had assumed that all camcorders had that feature, but recently found that not all of them do. Thank you!

@uxwbill The cost of making HD camcorders has dropped to the point that it doesn't make fiscal sense to stock SD models. Sony HD cams still shoot SD MPEG2, Canon's cameras offer an in-camera down-convert feature for HD footage. I wish they would shoot SD DV as opposed to MPEG2 though, as thats a better editing format.

PLEASE HELP I have a Sony DCR SR45 I plan to make videos....I want to know is it possible to use a wireless microphone or Voice recorder when video is being shot from Far Away? Is there a jack to connect the wireless microphone to my sony? If not...then how do i go about? Should i record sound on a voice recorder with a lapel mic and then add sound to the video?
