Awesome bus, first year of the 2.0, get that beauty back up to stock height and add some General grabbers. We camp in our buses all over the east coast, if you ever plan a camp trip up north would be great to meet up and camp.

I've never been a bus guy, but this is super COOL! Nice addition to the fleet - I can see you and the fam cruising to the beach in this for a day of fun! Plus, if/when you anger the wife with the smokey scent of cam-gear cookie baking, you now have an alternate place to sleep 😄

I never have been either, I still prefer the beetle. However this will be easier for camp and show trips. Plus I can tow the camp trailer behind it and rent the roof top tent out to Levi lol

Beautiful! A Type2 Westie with a genuine Westy interior! What a find! Over here (UK) its now really hard to find an example that isn't rotten almost beyond repair. I was going to say that one of the first things I would do is the gear linkage bushings but you got there. The little bit I could hear of the motor - it sounds sweet. Has it got hydraulic lifters? Once you're happy with correct adjustment they hardly need touching. Or replace with normal ones which a lot do. Enjoy it though - you should get loads of fun. We have an '86 Syncro Westie Vanagon which goes all over UK and Europe. Owned it for 15 years now and had some great times.

Do yourself a favor. After you replace all your shifter bushings get yourself a Scat or Berg shifter. You will thank yourself. Changed mine in my old bay to a scat and it was a night and day difference.

Yup, it may be an age thing, I always said I wouldn't but turned 55 and it was a good price. Then this last year lying on my back under the thing welding then engine out in the garage in bits waiting a month so far for the main bearings to show for the rebuild. It must be. I got tired of tent camping so I built the camp trailer. That’s great and all but still a tent but off the ground. This way I can have ac which is a huge bonus down here. Luckily I’ve done a lot of work to this over the years and know the history very well.

Dude good to hear from ya again! Yeah comfort is now a bigger priority. The camp trailer works great but it’s hit or miss with the heat down here and putting ac in a roof top tent isn’t the easiest.

@ yeah unfortunately AC units on initial startup pull a lot of power and take a lot of power to run trying to run solar anything and run an AC or a microwave is really hard to do. I’m still here. Haven’t gone anywhere just freezing my nuts off here in Oregon. it’s freaking cold and snowing. I would really wouldn’t mind some of that Florida sun here.

As I was watching this it was 1 degree and 27mph winds and that temp is in the F scale. When you said this is a cold start I thought should really bring it up to South Dakota and see how she starts 😂. Nice project by the way. Had a chance at a water box van and I just couldn’t get myself to not go Aircooled. Back in 1984 had a chance at 23 window van. Probably should have spent the $600 and brought it home. BUT I was only 14 and didn’t have $600 🤪
