Merlin Olsen lived right across the street from my Jr high school in Downey... Jones and Olsen are who everyone else is measured against! Too bad they couldn't tackle Tarkenton! OMG.. I remember jumping up and down screaming TACKLE HIM! then again against Youngblood and Dryer 🤷! Dad took me to my first Ram game in 1969 win against San Francisco. Took my Son to Canton in 2001 and by chance got his Ram helmet signed by Youngblood on the left horn and Dryer on the right the morning of the induction... just by sheer chance!

@@jondeux3682Jones and Youngblood played together only in 1971, Jack's rookie year. Olsen stuck with the Rams until his retirement in 1976. Merlin and Deacon the best ever? I cannot think of a better pair, but individually not the greatest. If Jerome Brown had not died in a car accident at 27, he and Reggie White would have been contenders as the best pair since White is the consensus all-time DE. Aaron Donald has exceeded Olsen's legacy, and that of every other DT.

This game was 48 years ago tonight! Being die-hard Redskins fans -- but never having gone to the playoffs -- we gathered at my friend's house to watch, then heard the (very underrated cornerback) Mike Bass' wife was watching up the street. We went up there, gave Mrs. Bass a note for Mike, and then returned to watch the victory! After which, we drove out to Dulles Airport to greet the team on its arrival at 3 or 4 in the morning -- before which we played touch football in the deserted airport parking lot. We all remember it like it was yesterday. Later that week, my phone rang and it was none other than Michael Thomas Bass (No. 41 from Michigan), who invited us to his house for Christmas dinner! We couldn't believe it -- he was our absolute FAVORITE player! -- and we all played touch on his front lawn before his wife called us in for a delicious spaghetti dinner!! It remains one of our most cherished memories ...

This game had it all. Great plays from the defense, Billy Kilmer throwing like a madman, turnovers, mistakes by both teams that led to what looked like a blowout, then a comeback 😳 that was exciting and played out as a fan loves. Roman Gabriel didn't have a great game at all but the 4th down to Snow in the 4th Quarter was epic. A lot of foolish mental mistakes and miscues, penalties and turnovers killed the 🐏Rams🐏 however they fought back. THIS is football! Hard nosed 👃 💪 battles down to the wire great games. Now 50+ years old I can get to see some of the most exciting games, exciting players, and Legendary players that played this game and made it what it was. These men took a beating. Careers didn't span 15-20 years. You were lucky if you made 3 years, 5 years you were a old man of the game. Seeing these stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from the 70's has made this old fart smile. Thanks again! NFL🏈Football🏈 have been some of the most fun and exciting memories I have had in my 50+ years. I've been a Green Bay Packers fan my entire life. But I also have been a NFL🏈🏈Football🏈🏈 fan as well, meaning while I love the Packers, I also enjoy 👀watching👀 games from the entire NFL. Not just Packers, but the entire NFL, AND the NCAA as well. I even enjoyed the USFL, the WFL, the CFL, and occasionally the AFL(Arena Football League). I remember as a kid hating Mondays. Because the obvious reason was the weekend ended and back to school. But Monday🌙nights🌙 had Monday Night Football and THAT was, aside from the Saturday morning cartoons, the highlight of the week on TV. The Half-Time Highlights was my favorite part. Back then we didn't have 500 channels. We had CBS, ABC, and NBC. PBS too but that's not the network for sports, although as a kid we loved it. But we didn't get the chance to see every team. When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks came into the league I was so excited. New teams meant new logos, helmets, and jerseys. I loved to draw as a boy and I loved drawing the NFL Helmets and logos. I remember going to the store with Mom HOPING they had the little plastic NFL Helmets in the quarter machines. 🙏 Hoping that I could spend my $2.00 and get 8 Helmets. They had one sticker for each side of the helmet, and the stripe for the center if the team's helmet had that. And the little plastic face guard that clipped onto the pegs on the sides. Sorry for the tangent. The 📺TV📺 would show your local team's game. For us, living in Milwaukee we'd get the Packers. Or if the Packers played on Monday Night Football we'd get either the Chicago 🐻Bears🐻, the Minnesota Vikings, or the Detroit 🦁Lions.🦁 The other network would show a AFC game. Back then one network had the NFC and one had the AFC. Again I was a kid in the 70's so I may not have remembered everything exactly correct. But you didn't have the chance to see every team play, or every game. So when MNF would do their Half-Time Highlights I'd be front and center. Smack in front of the📺TV📺 to see the highlights of teams I'd rarely ever see. So many memories have been stirred up because of these channels and the dedication these people have made to bring us these classic NFL 🏈games🏈players🏈moments🏈, and incredible pieces of history.👏👏👏👏👏 For that I once again THANK YOU SO MUCH! I appreciate your hard work, your patience, and again your dedication. So many younger people can now be able to spend time with their parents, grandparents, friends watching these classic NFL games.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈 Getting to learn about Hall of Fame players and coaches like Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Roger Starbauch, Bart Starr, Vince Lombardi, Jim Brown, and Joe Montana. As well as iconic stars like Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, as well incredible defensive players like Reggie White, Lawrence Taylor, Mike👀Singletary👀, the Steel Curtain, and so many more. Amazing seasons like the Miami🐬🐬Dolphins🐬🐬 going 14-0 then going on to sweep the playoffs as well, AND winning the Super Bowl🏆🏆🏈🏆🏆 Championship to be the ONLY TEAM EVER TO FINISH A SEASON UNDEFEATED!👍👏👍👏👍👏👌👍👏👌😀👍 Also the immaculate reception. Also a more recent event, game, on MNF watching Brett Favre have one of the epic games a player could have. This happened AFTER he learned his Father had passed away. He dismantled the Raiders. Touchdown after Touchdown! This show has been attributed to some of the most iconic moments in the NFL! It was a blessing to have been able to witness some of the most incredible plays, made by some of the most iconic and legendary players. That is why I love the Green Bay Packers, but also all of the other teams who play every week! What a journey and what memories! ❤👏❤👏❤

The Rams' defensive line this year was epic. They had 3 Hall of Famers: Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, and a young Jack Youngblood. Plus, Coy Bacon was playing the other defensive end and he was no slouch. He played 14 years, went to 3 pro bowls and recorded 130 sacks.

Billy Kilmer was a great QB. I was born a Redskins fan in 1972. The first Super Bowl appearance they had that year. But really was a hardcore fan when I was 10 years old. Joe Gibbs was HC in the Redskins prime. Gosh, they had such a great team in 81,82, and 83. In 1997 the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee and I always said if a team ever came to the state I lived I would give them my full support and I did. So I switched from a Redskins fan to Titans fan . I’ve been a Titans fan ever since. But I always think back and hold a special place in my heart for the Redskins. I hope the team can turn around there terrible team for the last decade. It’s sad to see.

Leonard Washington lol, players from back then wouldn’t even be able to get to Brady. Today’s players are bigger, stronger, faster and in better shape.
@elhombrenegro49994 жыл бұрын
Maggot 1986 Yes they would've didn't have no you could only bump the receiver within 5 yards and couldn't touch the receiver no more as long as the ball isn't in the air the defense player back than could bump the receiver off the route anywhere down the field, could knock the receiver to the ground and keep him there, so Tom Brady would've had to eat that ball and wasn't no get outside the offensive tackle box and just throwing the ball away like now
@Maggot-ml3vz4 жыл бұрын
El Hombre Negro DB’s back then couldn’t cover the WR’s today. Face it, athletes today are much bigger, stronger, faster, smarter and play in a more modern offense. The 70’s Steelers if you threw them in today’s NFL would be the worst defense in the NFL.
@elhombrenegro49994 жыл бұрын
Maggot 1986 Oh i wasn't commenting on the defensive players back then covering the receivers of today i was commenting on the rules if the defensive players today could play under the same rules of the defensive players back then it would be way more harder on the Receivers, Offensive Lines, Quarterbacks, and the passing game of today, i mean mostly likely if the rules of today was the same back then i'm sure the passing game would've been as it is now in the NFL

I was 10 years old back in 1971 and I remember football from that era. After watching this video I remembered correctly. The game had better pacing not as choppy. Less commercials. Officials let the players play. Less complaining by players. Players act more professionally on the field. Tackling technique was better. I have to say sometimes time fogs your memory. However this time my memory is correct football was definitely a better game almost 50 years ago.

My favorite era of pro football. So many little details in this broadcast. The only year of the yellow R helmets. Kilmer never had a chinstrap but never lost his helmet. Goal posts on the goal line. Both team's kickers were old school straight on approach. Legal bumping the receivers until the ball was thrown, RBs gaining 1000 yds in a season was still somewhat rare. QBs called the plays themselves. Old commercials, and the players - Merlin, Deacon, Isaiah, Youngblood, Kermit and Allen's over the hill gang. Pardee, Pottios, Talbert, Hanburger, Fischer, etc good good stuff. The Rams swept the 49ers in 70 and 71 but still lost the division both years. Skins got to the SB a year later, but the Rams not until the 79 season.
