I prefer the size of the HF stool. It’s perfect moving around my garage. I agree about it being safe. I would worry about the viper hitting my wheels or rocker panels when I’m wiping the sill and reach into the car. The HF tray goes completely under and doesn’t touch anything. The HF just needs new casters. 2.5” roller blade style. Amazon has them in 5 packs for office chairs. Silent and roll perfectly. Totally worth the upgrade. Under $50 total and you had a great stool for detailing. You can also get a new seat pad only from Jegs.
@CarsWithKeav8 ай бұрын
Totally agree with this approach and mitigating the risk of damage. If working on rough surface or swisstrax you would want a wider caster like a tool cart kind. The rollerblade style would be great for smooth floors for sure.

I almost bought a Vyper chair but they dont offer free shipping and well for the cost of a chair it should be. What really drove the last nails for me for never buying something off them is when they offer "free" shipping you will see they raised the price of the chair by $25 from the previous day so there is never free shipping and the biggest offense to me. I had it in my cart and when I decided I didnt want it. I actually got a call the next day from Vyper trying to push the chair on me. Sorry but I did not ask for the solicitation of them trying to push the chair by personally calling me. So never will be one in my garage.
@CarsWithKeav8 ай бұрын
Wow, usually you get an email about something left in your cart and maybe a coupon code to entice you to close the sale. Free shipping should be expected with this type of product. I know it’s heavy and shipping is not cheap, but I think they have big overhead on these and could easily eat the cost. Probably would sell more to makeup for the added cost.

This is the most honest review of the vyper chair on KZbin. Question for you, does your post wobble inside the shaft when you move around on the chair? Mines wobbles and it's driving me crazy. It feels cheap for such an expensive chair.
@CarsWithKeav7 ай бұрын
It doesn’t move too much have not really noticed so far. Most reviews on KZbin on on the higher end model or were given to them. Hard to come from that value standpoint when you didn’t dig into your wallet. I find it hard sometimes when I get review stuff to look at it from that point of view as well.
@stevenakachian72217 ай бұрын
@@CarsWithKeav next time you sit on your chair push the seat back and forth and see if the chair and base wobbles where the post enters the shaft. I'm going to tap threads in my shaft and install thumb screws to hold the post in place. Then the chair will feel solid like it's one piece.

Wonder If the garage door was open if you would've rolled down the driveway in the Viper chair. Lol I feel some pain in my legs and wallet with this chair. Tbh the harbor freight would be an upgrade for me, I have a regular cushioned folding chair for when I do the wheels. But I also don't have much space for storage. Pretty good test, I agree, at that cost it should've already had the rubber protector installed. If I was to scratch my car after buying an item that was to help me wash and take care of it. Can't begin to say how upset I would be. Especially how I bump into things as it is when working on something. But I have to say it looks comfortable and I have noticed in newer videos.

It also has larger locking casters so it’s not as finicky as the red dolly wheels

I have been contemplating buying one of these… I honestly have the icon chair from HB and don’t care for it much, but also own two of their lower model grants chair and love those and the storage on them..my thing with the round storage area under the chair is kind of pointless…. I like actual bottle holders and towel storage. I’ve noticed on the icon chair, you can’t really put spray bottles under there… they just fall off every time you move… thanks for the comparison… there is a lot of videos building these chairs but not really giving honest feedback on functionality.

I purchased a chair from Sears on sale years ago that looked like a tractor seat on a square chassis and a shelf underneath it. The seat was somewhat comfortable but all the shelves underneath the chairs are useless since you cannot see whats there while you're sitting on the stool. The stool has 4 casters since it has a square base and they don't travel over extension cords or anything else on the floor easily. Since I'm tall I like a stool that's over 16 inches tall where chair height toilets are too short and its hard to stand up after sitting so close to the ground for long periods at a time. So the adjustable lab stood, that you see in doctor's offices, are sold by Uline for under $150 and have a comfortable seat, a pneumatic height adjustment, and can add an optional backrest.

Thanks so much for the insights into these stools. I’ll have to look into them as a cheaper alternative.

Great video - so down to Earth. It made me think a bit... what about a saddle drum chair with back support and add casters to it? Or one of those comfy chairs used at spa saloons? Any of those may be better than the viper. I have the same red chair you do and I cannot place any bottle on the plate because somehow they always keep falling so the bottom round plate for me is useless and 3 legs with casters should be ok, or not?
@CarsWithKeav8 ай бұрын
Never say on a saddle drum chair to know How it would work. 3 legs I don’t think would be very stable when hitting any kind of resistance when rolling. The one thing the Vyper has going for is the build quality which would last a decade more than likely.

Great review. I have the cheap stool myself and it has a few flaws like you say but I can't justify that kind of money for the benefits as I can see being the lazy person that I am is to pull myself around the garage and nailing my ankles like you have shown every time. . I see you have an aluminum step against your wall and you want to strike fear into your life try stepping on that with that type of flooring when it is wet or even dry, I have issues of butt clinching if I slightly lean to reach an area on the roof and still with one hand on the vehicle (pick up,Suv for van) I am looking for some kind of anti slip for the base of the legs.
@CarsWithKeav8 ай бұрын
I think the $30 stool and sometimes it’s $19 on sale and you add $50 you got a good chair. New casters and a new seat cushion I’ll have to see what I can do and slip hazards always have my anxiety high. The aluminum step I have is covered in sandpaper on all surfaces you touch with your feet.
@tier1detailing8 ай бұрын
Put it up against the $60 Craftsman at Lowe's with upgraded casters. Compared to the HF, it has a square base that feels much more balanced, and the seat cushion is much thicker. I love supporting Made in America companies like Vyper, but that price point makes no sense for the product you get. My opinions: - The lack of an ergonomic height adjustment is a downgrade. I know their thing is "pneumatics fail", but I've never experienced this. They're also easy to replace - The large base you keep busting your achilles on is a downgrade - I have no use for a backrest, as I find myself pretty much always leaning forward while detailing - Grade 8 hardware? Really guys? If a stool undergoes 150k PSI, something's gone terribly wrong lol
