Caro Mozart!

*Zaide* was Mozart's most personal, even autobiographical, work, and reveals his desperate state of mind in Salzburg during 1779 and 1780 ... Happiness has deserted Gomatz [i.e. Mozagt ~ Mozart], and the enforced leisure of the night gives him no rest. All comforts are without effect upon his wounded soul. To a poignant oboe phrase he longs for death to free him from his misery, until at last exhaustion lulls him to fitful sleep. // As he sleeps a female figure appears: Zaide ... Like Gomatz, he endures servitude ... Zaide, the vision who appears to him in his despairing sleep, is his muse: opera, or more particularly, German opera, whose portrait keeps the flame of hope alive in his breast ... But German opera is unliberated too, an exile like Mozart ... United at last ... together they will escape and conquer destiny ... Allazim is eventually revealed to be the father of both Gomatz and Zaide. Clearly, for Mozart, he represents his father Leopold. Like Wolfgang, Leopold is a slave, although one who has accepted his servitude and relinquished the dream of freedom. But he is a slave with authority over Wolfgang, and has the power to help his son to escape to fulfill his destiny, or to restrain him. 'You would not restrain our joy,' says Gomatz. 'You are too noble and too great for such a shameful deed. Help me to attain my freedom and the freedom of Zaide.' ... The reason that Mozart could not complete the opera, of course, was that the outcome of his own story was as yet unknown. ~Nicholas Till, *Mozart and the Enlightenment*, W.W. Norton & Company, New York - London, 1993, pp. 56-59.

Was die Ouvertüre französisch ? ( Das geht mit SICHER-HEIT gar nicht ! Ein Vor - SPIEL französisch!.....🤣 )
@kleinermaulwurf4318 Жыл бұрын
