我十幾年前去瑞士出差,在餐廳裡問服務生說,「這白開水是免費的嗎?」 結果他的回答讓我印象深刻:"Sir, nothing is free in Europe."

Man! S/he delivered a polite sentence in an extremely rude attitude ever. My goodness. However, I have to say that it’s not always true. There are always some vendors or shops give out treats. ❤❤
Hi, Lucas. The lady that you said probably wasted 15 minutes that day got something in return from helping you: happiness. There are a LOT of people like that in Taiwan. They are just super helpful and kind to foreigners. I hope that goodwill is never ever abused.
I’m living in USA now and starting to realize how precious the customer service level is in Taiwan. I miss living in Taiwan so much!

12:52 I think the lady still got something more worth than money, Taiwanese people also feel happy and warm when they help the others, helping the others is not wasting time, it’s normal for Taiwanese I think. And furthermore, she got an experience to chat with you, listening to different story and culture, we got nice experience, not nothing, sometimes it’s more precious . Of course we’re glad to help when we’re not in a hurry, although we’re busy we still care about if you can receive other help and be safe. And this is a good cycle, you are nice to the person, that person also want to be nice to the others.
One time, I was in Taipei. It was summer and very hot. I was walking around, and I suddenly feel faint. I went into the 7-11 looking like a ghost. The shopkeeper was a young man. He immediately ask me, “Do you want some water? Do you want hot water or cold water?” With his help, I was better after a while.
