That is true, toman is highly sought after for its meat. Malaysia and Singapore toman are severely hit by overfishing and other more invasive fish species.
Oh please, toman (giant snakehead,鱼虎) is good for the fishing industry. Highly sought after for its flesh. After it gets to a certain size, it's growth slows down. If you guys are afraid of invasive species, it's the large mouth bass and African Sharptooth catfishes that is prevalent in Taiwanese pond fishing industry that you guys should be wary about. Singapore toman population (also considered as an invasive species) has been decimated by overfishing, cichla temensis and African Sharptooth catfishes. temensis is a species similar to large mouth bass in habit and grows to 1m + monsters. There are photographic records amongst Singapore anglers of Sharptooth catfishes of 1.3m length. Seeing as how Thai large head prawns, cichla buttokoferi, red crayfishes are already frequently caught by Taiwanese anglers in the wild, it is only time that large mouth bass and Sharptooth catfishes gets free. Tomans would be the least of the problems and in fact help control these two even more invasive species.

Good points but do notice that different species may become more destructive based on the environment. For example, Asian carp is the dominant invasive species in North America, capable of surviving in all types of water. But they are actually considered a pretty delicate native fish in Taiwan. In general, all invasive species could be destructive to an island ecosystem like Taiwan.

@@hugocheng6243 toman? In Singapore, they are thinly sliced and use in congee (type of porridge) and used to be eaten raw like sashimi or use in traditional chinese medicinal brew to aid operation recovery. The eating of raw toman ceased due to a dozen of so really bad cases of food poisoning.
