Hello. I am Korean. Thank you for your review. President Park Chung-hee is always a hot topic of debate in South Korean society. I think the debate about President Park Chung-hee will continue for at least decades. I remember having a heated debate about President Park Chung-hee when I was majoring in political science in college. A reference to President Park Chung-hee is essential to talk about Korea's modern history. And such comments about President Park Chung-hee always lead to controversy. Today, South Korea is led by student protesters group who led the so-called '80s democratization. For this reason, it is true that the assessment of Park Chung-hee is somewhat negative. It would never have been easy to take a balance between economic development and democracy in the South Korean society as a newly independent country at that time. However, at least in terms of Korea's economic development, all South Koreans recognize President Park Chung-hee's achievements. Even 李光耀, Singapore's former prime minister, praised President Park Chung-hee for his achievements in economic development. In my opinion, President Park Chung-hee's life is a life that a man can dream of at least once.

Your comment is very informative about President Park. Could you tell me how Korean people think about 김재규? After watching this movie, I am interested in the Korean history of this period. This movie described 김재규 as a man with integrity, assassinated president to stop the incoming brutal suppression to the protesters. Recently I watched a TV series made by MBC called 제5공화국 based on the history from President assassination to Chun Doo-hwan come to power; This series considers the Americans influence on 김재규, and questions on his vindication about the part he claims "assassinated President only to bring democracy back to Korean". Do you think 김재규 is an idealist or he is dominated by the American who don't like President Park ’s nuclear weapons plan?

@@johndoe9641 Hi~ I'm glad to talk to you😁😁 In general, Koreans think of Kim Jae-kyu as a murderer. Regardless of whether people like President Park or not, the murder cannot be justified for any reason. And Koreans don't even think of him as an idealist or an assassin under American orders. The story of Kim Jae-kyu as an assassin under the orders of the U.S. is actually quite an old conspiracy theory in Korean society. However, the testimony and evidence at the time showed that Kim Jae-kyu was too clumsy to say he was an assassin. And if there's actually American involvement, there should be at least one proof over the course of 40 years, but there's no evidence so far. Even when Park Geun-hye who is daughter of Park Chung-hee, was the president of south korea, there was no evidence about that. I majored in political science in college, according to political theory I learned, the scariest thing for a dictator is not an enemy state of external, but a second-in-command inside. If you look at the history of East and West, it is easy to find that many kings who had absolute power were killed by the second-in-command under them, not by the armies of the enemy states. Park Chung-hee was also wary of having a second-in-command. And to prevent this, Park Chung-hee had his men compete for loyalty to him, which is academically called "Divide and rule". Park Chung-hee prevented the occurrence of a second-in-command through this split-governance method, but he did not seem to have been able to cope with the growing conflict between his subordinates during this "Divide and rule" process. Maybe Kim Jae-kyu accidentally killed President Park in the process of competing for loyalty to President Park with Cha Ji-cheol, the chief of the security service office.

See it from his Manchuria background. A lot of the debate can be settled.
