In Malaysia and SG, this is known as 雜飯 or 菜飯 aka economic rice 經濟飯. 雜飯 has a history in Malaysia and SG for more than 200 years since Qing dynasty, where many chinese men went south to Nanyang 南洋 area (todays malaysia, indonesia and SG) for work as contract labourers in tin mine, plantation, shipping and many other industries. All the labourers lived in shared accomodation and food is provided as in today's雜飯. This also gives birth to bak kut teh 肉骨茶 , famous amongst the chinese labourers in Klang, Selangor. This 雜飯 tradition continued until now, fed students in both school and university and workers across industries. This also gives rise to hawker centre and catering service. Due to different varieties, many families would rather buy dishes for ancestral veneration, instead of cooking at home. In malaysia, even company executives, politicians, ministers, aristocrats and royalties eat 雜飯。

This has been the main lunch option in Sydney for office workers. 2 choices or 3 choices, easy and quick. It has been popular in Sydney before and after covid.
In Singapore and Malaysia, we called it economy rice. You can get good portion of meal with $S5 - 7.

It is no longer call economy rice. Nowadays is call mixed rice. Because after picking all those delicious dishes, you get the rice and mixed feeling after paying. No longer economy lor. I was wondering if HK never have mixed rice, it is very common here in Msia and SG.
兩餸飯: (i) fair price in the current environment and even the price is less expensive than most of the sets of McDonald; (ii) with variety of choice at own preference; (iii) the quality of food is not bad. It serves a win-win case for caterers and customers.

The thing is, if you do not hold tight the food supply-chain and keep things steady.. even though the prices are low now... When those farms end. Then this is the end for them??? So.... But on the reverse side, if prices do not creep up at some point soon.. and then you lose the other foreign companies. Oh God.. bless you... cos the ride downwards is going to be harsh. Even other countries know this. Internal politics already exists inside the PRC.. some farm lands were restricted from food productions. And then housings are knocked down. etc etc etc.

@@MeiinUK yes, that is true. also the chinese traditional food in cooking procedure are more expensive than the wetern food. 1, too many kind of veg, take time to wash and cook. 2, hire too many people, to measure the food in to the customer's plate. 3, price nearly close to the MCD&KFC, when things gets comlicated, the price could be as high as time gone by.

easy to explain: the rice with 2 kinds of veg or meat. case done.

Before, mc donald was supposed to be a relative cheap option, now Mc Donald becomes overly expensive. For that burger, it doesnt worth the money anymore
I am having such mixed rice in Malaysia almost daily, it is best option of balance diet meal (depend selection), fast, convenient, more affordable. But price can be dispute if some customer is really questioning how they calculate.

深圳很多这种,我们就是叫快餐。两荤两素15块钱,米饭和汤无限续。

I'd still buy and eat it even if there's no inflation! It's just the most coonvenient and cheapest way to get a balanced meal. I wish we had this too in the West
In Malaysia we have this called "mixed rice" or 经济饭 for a very long time. Glad to see people at Hong Kong benefits from the low price, but the price is increasing in Malaysia.

HK citizens also did the wrong things too... cos they often try to "insource" outsiders into HK to work.. so therefore... cannot control immigration, and taxes.. and also cannot control... the markets either. So when people leave. They leave in a single go. This is why the "complete zero lock down" is important.. to stop people losing capitals... and to lose taxation... So many individuals don't even !fcking file their taxes either ! Same with so many youtubers as well... I don't think that net zero is meant to be on the cards at all. Cos those who wants to "do" net zero... has no idea.. at all !!! All so messed up.
