India is a complex country from the perfectives of social, culture, politics and economy. 1. Social & culture- language, caste and inherent ways of "doing things" are herculean obstacles to foray in world class industrialization. 2. Political system - unhinged democratic political is now being led "elite/ Brahmin caste" and most importantly; religion driven. Besides, every state/ country in India is politically impendent from its central New Delhi government. 3. Economy - monopolized by Upper Caste Families like Tata and Ambani. Barriers of entry to a spectrum of economy are high and dictated by these families; not to mentioned her complex culture and corrupted political system. Classic examples of international-multinational companies like Coca Cola, Apple, Microsoft, Google are demonstrating and conducting its businesses far from its expectations.

The core issue is one of: Can there be more than one type of modernity. The West view is that there can only be one form of modernity: that of Western modernity. The rise of the PRC challenges that assumption which is a great psychological threat to the West (both Left and Right and if anything more on the Left.) The view that India can overtake the PRC is more of a defensive mechanism to try to sustain that view by claiming that the PRC economic and political system is unstainable. This does not mean India is doomed to fail in its quest to become the number one power. In fact if the Western view is correct then the PRC will eventually stagnate and India will overtake PRC. The next 20-30 years will reveal once and for all if there can only be one modernity, that of the West, or many.

I've read hundreds of books. Reading your paragraph exhausted me. Remove those this and that. It's very annoying.
