This is a very informative and nicely done video. I’ve been putting off axles on my w116, but seeing your video gives me enough motivation to get my ass off the couch and do this. I will probably rebuild my originals and hope they’re not too far off spec as I don’t trust the Chinese axles. Thanks!

There are two types of half shafts, annular and homokinetic. I think that affects bolt length. Also, that bolt is meant to stretch, so it actually should be replaced.

Thanks for the detail....I am about to do my W123 240D. Yes it was a bit long however, well worth the time especially for the tips! Question- how long do you think it would take start to finish without the sanding of shims?

How have your aftermarket axles been holding up? I’ve heard a lot of people had issues with them after only a few thousand miles. So I’ve just been rebuilding mine instead.

Does any one know if the spacers on the cv bolt is entirely necessary, i bought some aftermarket shafts and their a hair too long i think so there's a little slop at the hub side

Are this the same process with a newer model mercedes like w203 ? mine boot is torn.. did the w203 model driveshaft use clip that need to be remove from inside the axle ?
