Pierre! That is absolutely one of, if not THE, most professional presentations from a video production perspective you have ever posted! Huge kudos to you and Thomas both. Just a real step up! Love it!

Fantastic video Pierre, thank you for covering these underrated cars. The first car I was ever in, having been taken home from the hospital after being born in one, was in my Dad’s 190D 2.0. I therefore have a strong connection with them.

It's unreal, Pierre you are a walking/sitting encyclopedia on Mercedes. I am in awe. I did not know this about the 201, but am glad to hear it. I have always liked the 201 for its size and how solid it feels on the road. My neighbor had one some years ago. I am moving into search mode for a new daily driver, so I will have to begin working on manifesting one of these 🙏😌

Just bought a 190d 2.0 with the rare 5 speed. Rust free with no fender benders. Slow as an asthmatic tortoise, but tough as a bank vault and gets the fuel economy of a Prius. Love it!

I have 1987 190D turbo. Just tested fuel economy few days ago. 90% highway, 10% local streets. Speed was about 70-80mph with AC on full. Fuel economy was just under 35 mpg measured at the pump.
@countlesshobbiesmk2273Ай бұрын
Interesting fact…. tested 2005 e320 cdi on the same road, got 38.8 mpg. With that said, e320 is in much better shape mechanically than my 190 DT. I never did fuel pump calibration and injectors were calibrated without any special equipment in the basement and without any prior experience.

My dad and I both daily drive Diesel 201s. His is a 2.2 automatic, mine is a 2.5 manual. We love these cars. I can attest to 40+ mpg if you keep the speed 65 and lower (not easy in TX where I live) in my '86. I average 30 in 105 weather at 80 MPG, 36 in the winter.

Have 2 190d turbos and one om601 parts car. I took the 601 cars manual components and swapped mine to manual. Can't wait to swap the injection pump, intercooler and 1st cummins hx30 turbo. I heard they only shipped 1500 or 2500 to the US market and all turbo diesels were auto only. I have number 666. It was the easiest auto to manual swap I've done even easier than the Hondas I've done.

Great information. Just figures I have to live in the market that gets only brief glimpses of the best cars. When gas prices spiked years ago, I wanted a VW Polo with a 1.1 liter engine, as they were getting better than 50 mpg if you kept it in running trim & proper time. Only sold in other nations around the globe, with little chance of imports being allowed ever. Most Benz Diesels are hard to get a hold of a decent running model. The only ones I find in Ohio are left in the field for years, and would require both a parcel of cash and a Papal Blessing to get it running right again, since the corrosive nature of oxidized oils in most cases will gall and pit the he'll out of the bearing surfaces alone. Thank you for your informative video, and as always warmest regards.

Good info, and good video quality. Keep up the good work! What's your opinion on the six cylinder diesel engines that came in the W124 and W126?
@olrikschmieder5263 Жыл бұрын
Hello Pierre, thank you for presenting the diesel versions of the W201. The W201 is very popular in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. It would be great to present the gasoline versions as well. There is a huge variety from 1.8 till 2.6 Liter engines to be evaluated. Carburator- versus KE-Jetronic - engines. 4-speed versus 5-speed transmissions in comparison to automatic... Fuel consumption of the M102 in connection with a manual transmission is pretty good. I know that Americans don't care about fuel consumption, but my 1.8 with manual gearbox needs between 6 Liters (on country roads) and 8 Liters (on the Autobahn) per 100km. What do you think about the M102 and M103 engines? Greetings from Germany, Olrik

I always see people in facebook groups seeking to buy a W201 Turbo and when one finally appears for sale, they think it’s too expensive. They think $3500 is a lot of money for a good example of one of the rarest cars they will ever get. They are either mad or too cheap not to buy one of those for that price.
@BolsakTBagger4 жыл бұрын
luis- i am not on facebook but i am curious to know what they sell for. i have 2.5 turbodiesel but i don't think i will ever sell it because it is so fast. so how much do the sellers usually ask for them?
@TheLuisg924 жыл бұрын
@@BolsakTBagger I am not sure what they sell for. It’s so rare to find one for sale, but I have seen a couple of higher millage but well cared examples in the 3 to 4 grands range (now, that’s the asking price, so I guess they change hands for less than that). That’s W123 money for a car that is far rarer and faster. If you have one and don't have the need to part ways with it, keep it. You may not find another one.
@TheSpekkel12 жыл бұрын
@@TheLuisg92 Price of turbo 190d's has gone up significantly in Europe during the last couple of years. Basically being non obtainium for a working class chap like myself. Decent W124 with 602 turbo can still be bough for relatively cheap, 4-6k€. Diesels, especially older examples have taken a serious hit in popularity, because of the ever rising cost of diesel itself, which slows down the appreciation of these vehicles. But I don't mind the "high" mpg of these cars, as I've counted that having a newer, more efficient car will add up in cost of ownership significantly with time, costing way more than a decent condition mercedes does in fuel and repairs.
