HiJan Thank you for your fine instruktion, and I have an additional thing I will transfere to the link. .When you have the stepmotor out you can remove the cover of it and then you see a white tooth wheel with the broken tooth whitch is the reason of the malfunktion. Now you can turn it 180 degrees and the stepmotor again is as god as a new one I have done it and it works perfect. The wheel only use the half of it.

Very good instruction clip. You are smart and patient with excellent dexterity. Now, years back, qualified MB mechanic was doing this job by removing whole dash and gaining access to the stepper sucker faster and simpler.. Then again I might not remember correctly. Regards

I did a footwell stepper by removing large torx bolt at bottom of side bar, bending vertical bar out of way with big pry bar then beding it back. Huge time saver, if done carefully of course.

Hi, I need to replace the stepper as well. Can you please let me know where the torx near the 'bottom of the sidebar' and which vertical bar exactly you bent back? Thank you very much, Christ

I am having the same problem with my car now. You are brave to take the parts apart. My eyesight problem does not allow me to attend to this. Pray old Mighty to bless me when I send this to the workshop.

did you send it? How much was the cost of changing with parts?

Top video Jan. That was really good of you to take the time to show. You ever thought of doing a stepper motor service kit with this video? You would make a fortune. The torx tool you made up was quite ingenious. I guess the thought of ripping the car apart more was not an option to you. Would you make up and sell me them tools you used. Little pliers and the torx key ? Well done m8 !
@JanJezik6 жыл бұрын
Hi. I certainly didn´t want to rip the whole dashboard apart. I saw some videos of people going through the process and it seemed to be too much effort for just one stepper motor. The pliers were just normal surgical clamp. I belive you can by them in pharmacy or drugstore. And the torx tool... Well, it depends which of the motors is faulty in your car. There is like 5 of them. Each of them would require different tools...

What a horrible job to have to do. Thank you for sharing the video as I have to do mine. Did you disable the drivers air bag whilst working on it? If so could you show how please.
@JanJezik2 жыл бұрын
I think I had just the battery disconnected. Good luck and stay strong during the process. It is complicated, but on the other hand you can appreciate the way marcedes is built. I mean everything can be disassembled without breaking any parts and then it can be put back together. You can do it :)

Yes, I was using the car for about 2 weeks without the faulty stepper motor before the new one was delivered. No problems there if its just a foot well heating. Would be worse in case of front windshield AC problem...

The aircon system had not been working in my w203 for a number of years, so far Ive replaced the condenser/dryer, the compressor and the valve into the evaporator. Re gassed to spec and still not cold in the cabin, although the high and low pressure pipes are cold and the fan cuts in. Is the problem this stepper motor the problem? (not clicking noise) and the air distribution is fine.

Before buying this car it is worth asking the seller if he ever changed the stepper motors, if the answer is no, the sale doesn't go through

So how does the clicking go away by itself if its damaged? I see a lot of people say it goes away after a minute or so. Does it have any effect on how the car drives other than the irratating sound?
@coolcat23 Жыл бұрын
It does not affect how the car drives. It just limits your ability to control the air flow.

Would it have been too much trouble to explain HOW to remove the light switch panel? Are there clips? You might have even considered showing the back of the panel so the rest of us would have a hint as to how that panel is held in place. Good video overall but lacking in the details.
@JanJezik4 жыл бұрын
Well, I can't capture all the small details. The video would have like 2 hours and I would spend days making it :) But since I am just coincidentally working on the interior again this weekend I was able to take two pictures with some hints about the light switch panel. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1AW-83OYegw4b5ooBcu4Dy01M77urxE7z?usp=sharing You have to unscrew the vertical screw behind the parking break release (mentioned at 7:35 in the video). Then you have to remove the cover panel on the left side of the dashboard (7:07). This gives you a view on the left side of the light switch panel with small metal clip (first image on the google drive link). Release the clip and also similar clip on the opposite side of the light switch panel. You gain access to the second clip after disconnecting the light switch connector. Just stick your hand deep in and push the clip with your fingers :-D After you release both metal clips, you can pull the panel out just a little bit. Two wires will be preventing you from pulling it any further. But now if you look from the bottom you will see a plastic clip holding the part with the wires (second photo on the google drive). Just release the plastic clip and that should do it. I am sure you can now see that I can't describe everything this thoroughly. You have to figure the details on your own. Good luck
