Everyone knows Cousin Brucie. Yes 1968, boy I was 13 yrs old. Love the songs, time, weather and especially the commercials, like "Wrigley's Spearmint Gum" and Pimple commercials. "1, 2, 3 Red Light" the girls loved it. Ellis, as I say, "Thanks for taking us Baby Boomers to the 60s and 70s.

6 days prior to the Jets’ radio broadcast of their opener on WABC Radio! Cousin Brucie and the Jets’ Radio Broadcaster Merle Harmon were sweet voices on the station back then! NYC Teachers Strike and we had no idea the Jets would begin their greatest season ever when they won it all in 1968-1969! Great memories for a 9 year old Brooklyn boy like I was then!

Bruce would use “The In Crowd” by Ramsey Lewis and “Mercy Mercy Mercy” as background to patter. Listening I thought it was a live band and that the party was there!

He's the last of the Mohegans from the old time rock and roll radio 📻 greats. And he still sounds good 👍😊 as ever. God bless Both Him and Jodi.

Thanks for sharing. Great memories when AM radio ruled! I was fortunate to grow up in eastern Pennsylvania and listened to both New York and Philadelphia radio. Big fan of Cousin Bruce.

Back in the day I wrote Cousin Brucie and he answered me saying that I could come down to the station for a tour while he was on the air. The only problem was that my Mom was not fan of his show: As for driving me into NYC just after dinner on a school night....Well, that, was totally out of the question. Keep up the great work Ellis. I have enjoyed many of your videos...

What a trip. I had my ear glued to the radio, and WABC, for that year and beyond. Cousin Brucie, Dan Ingram, and others. Later, Imus in the morning. :)

Ellis, WABC was 77 on the AM dial right? Do you how many watts they were during the day and at night?
@EllisFeaster3 жыл бұрын
The station was 50,000 watts day & night, and after sunset could be heard across half the country.

I thought they were powerful. My little sister and I would listen to WABC, and one station in Chicago at night, all the way down here in Charleston, West Virginia. Miss those days, Mom and Dad too.

@@EllisFeaster I heard "Never Been to Spain" in Fairmont, West Virginia over WABC. It may have been sometime around sunset. Fairmont is about 400 miles from NYC. This happened in 1978, but it seems it was before dark.
