Once upon a time all American railroad rolling stock would have fit within the size parameters of that transit locomotive. Glad we left our options open.

Legend has it that August Belmont, the man in charge of the Interborough Rapid Transit (NYC's first subway) deliberately made its loading gauge smaller than typical in order to preclude any incentive to provide freight service on his system. At the time, limited freight service using rapid-transit tracks was a thing (most systems having some sort of track connection to the national rail network) and he wanted no part of it. Later networks like the BMT and Independent specified larger tunnel clearances accommodating 10' wide cars, and some lines in Brooklyn hosted limited freight moves by way of the connected South Brooklyn Railway.

@@RailRideYou know, It would be Very great to see our modern freight power to being over 12 feet wide as how some of the American steam Locomotives were, Well specifically mallets with their Very wide front platforms and cylinders.

I'm num to what's happening here, or are they using the 6006 as dead weight for the other to pull and without wheelslip?
@SirHeadly843 ай бұрын
@@norbertdx if I had to guess; they had 6000 in dynamic braking for simulated load. Forcing the smaller unit to load up and work harder. Could be wrong though

Boy, the 6006 looks sharp in that scheme. I love it! I hope she, and the 6000, get parked inside when not out testing.

I would love to see the day that wabtec and EMD would be able to have the ability to raise these Locomotives height up to 17'0 rather than keeping it 16'1 (Tho 16'1 is very Tall for a locomotive) if the AAR would increase it.
