U need to reach out to St. Croix, Yum, River2Sea and other fishing lure makers, ur videos are great quality and I believe u should b endorsed by them. All the fish u caught are quality ones.....equivalent to a monster buck for us hunters. Most of the SMB u caught are like the ones we caught here in Green Bay, WI. Thanks for all your videos, got some great ideas from u......shrink tubes, whopper Plopper, etc. Already sub'd

Beautiful overcast day, no wind at all. Very peaceful indeed.The natural environment…stunningly gorgeous! The smallies biting non stop even two of them almost at the same time. That clear water allowing to see the fish darting away…(I ´d say smallies are more aggressive than largies, I don’t know …). I bet you didn’t have a boring fishing day LOL.

That's awesome! Both largemouth and smallmouth have a hard time turning away from a wacky worm put in front of them! I saw a couple big catfish sunning themselves in shallow water too but I couldn't get them to bite.

+NDYakAngler thanks for replying I found you today off of your kayak review, I defiantly want to get into kayak fishing, what's a good affordable kayak for starting?
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
I really like my Tarpon 120 and it's on the lower end of the price range compared to most newer sit on top kayaks. The Pelican Catch 120 looks pretty good too if you're looking for something you can stand up on. I'd definitely recommend a sit on top kayak, they cost a little more than sit insides but they're the way to go if you plan on using it mostly for fishing. Austin Kayak is a good shop for browsing online to figure out exactly what your looking for. The season is coming to an end too so this is the time of year you'll start finding deals and a lot of used kayaks coming up for sale.

THat's the only thing I don't like about river fishing. SO many more fish could be caught if you could float slower. Otherwise river fishing is great.
@ndyakangler7 жыл бұрын
My favorite way to cover a stretch of river is to launch and fish my way upstream. It's easier to maintain a position facing the current and it gives me a lot more time to work an area. Then I can hit all the productive spots again on the way back.

It seems as though you paddle upstream a lot. Am I seeing it correctly, and do you do so in order to float back to your put-in point? If so, how far upstream do you usually go? Thanks.
@ndyakangler6 жыл бұрын
You’re correct, starting off heading upstream leaves me with an easy paddle back at the end of the day. I’ll work my way 2-7 miles up river before turning around.

I think that was some kind of sucker fish or maybe a small carp. It's awesome when the river is that clear, I spot all kinds of fish! Saw a few big cats too so I'll have to try targeting them again one of these days.
@mg-70478 жыл бұрын
'Nother great vid! I think the partial clouds may have helped you. Funny how the green of your shirt reflected on many of their bellies when you handled them. You might as well leave the fish finder at home when you go to this spot. Thanks for the vid and I hope you're out fishing again this weekend.
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I agree the fish finder doesn't do much good on a shallow river like this. I figured I'd find most of the fish in the lake which I think is why I brought it with.
@Larry777778 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt, beautifully recorded. Take a look back at 13:23 (too funny) you are drifting onto a big smallie in the bottom foreground as you had your eyes set on a different one further downstream.

Thanks! I use a Frabill rubber handle trout net, model #3672. I think it's the perfect net for kayak fishing and will easily land bass up to 6lbs.
@dallaskillman45158 жыл бұрын
where did you get the shrink tubing? O rings are costly.
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
I had to order it, can't remember where exactly but I think it was a stereo supply shop. Google 3M 3/8" clear heat shrink and there should be several shops to choose from. I paid around $10 to have a 6 pack of 10" pieces shipped here which is enough to rig about 150 worms.

what forceps are you using, and i cant believe you dont have them leashed. great vid
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
They're William Joseph Hemocuts. I can't believe I don't have them leashed either, there's already a couple of them sitting on the bottom of the lake. I should tie them down, the net likes to grab the open end of the handle and they get flung into the water.

@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
The Mississippi River is a good one. If you have a kayak or some way to get to the Beaver Islands near St. Cloud that would be a great spot. I don't think it's shallow enough to wade to them from shore but there's a ton of shore fishing spots around there too.

awesome video! keep them coming! always enjoy watching you slay some smallies. what is that plastic ring you have on your senkos? that's such a smart idea. I need to do the same when I wacky rig.
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin! I use clear 3/8" heat shrink tubing on my senkos. I'll use about a 3/8" piece and add a small drop of superglue under the heat shrink after shrinking it to the worm, then I can catch fish on it until the worm gets chewed to pieces.
@kevinGvue8 жыл бұрын
Where do you buy the tubes from? Just a local hardware store?
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
I got it online somewhere, can't remember where but I just Google searched 3m 3/8" clear heat shrink. Amazon might have it too, if not 3/8 they'll have 1cm which should also work.
@kevinGvue8 жыл бұрын
+NDYakAngler awesome! thanks for the tip
@Quagmire888 жыл бұрын
What worm were you wacky rigging? I have been using senkos, which are really great but I can't get more than 2 or so bites off one worm before it comes off. It has been getting pretty expensive. I was looking at the Yum dingers, any luck on those?
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
Yum Dingers are what I was using. They work great and I can get them locally for under $3 a pack. I use heat shrink tubing to catch more fish per worm. 3/8 or 1cm heat shrink tube will work, just snip off a 1/4-1/2" piece and shrink it onto the worm. I run the hook through just the heat shrink tube and usually catch 5-10 fish before the worm gets chewed up and needs to be replaced.
@Quagmire888 жыл бұрын
NDYakAngler Oh I never thought of the heat shrink. I work with that stuff all time. Thanks for the info!
@TheEllbell1497 жыл бұрын
that work better than o-rings in your opinion?
@ndyakangler7 жыл бұрын
Elliott Weitz I prefer it because I'm able to hook through the heat shrink so that the hook is turned 90 degrees to the worm with the point up. I get a better hook up ratio that way compared to having the hook parallel to the worm with an o-ring.
@rustynails14687 жыл бұрын

Decided to buy a kayak and try some smallie fishing on a local river myself. I use a wacky rigged senko all the time for large mouth when things get slow with great results. Can you catch smallmouths all day during the summer like this, or is it more of just a morning bite and dies off after it gets hot?
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
This footage was from around 2pm to 6pm and I did pretty well most of the morning/early afternoon throwing the BBZ1 rat too. On this river the mid day bite is usually pretty good, especially when it's sunny out. The fish will be in more predictable spots like I was catching them in here, shady spots under trees and under grassy banks that have a ledge they can tuck themselves under.
@WingsnBones8 жыл бұрын
Awesome. I'll definitely have to give it a try. I didn't realize smallies were found around vegetation. I always thought they just liked rocks and hard bottom. And I also had the perception that they didn't bite well in the heat. Thanks for the help.
@MrDeputy836 жыл бұрын
Would you throw the BBZ1 along the banks in the morning as well?
@ZombieOnaStick218 жыл бұрын
I fish a river very similar to the one you're on and throw a lot of swimbaits jigs with twister tails, paddle tails, etc. I get hung up so damn much in the logs and sticks below and end up running over the prime spots to get it back. Do you think the wacky rig gets hung up a little less? Could you recommend any other types of sort of snag proof baits that you find really effective? Or any tips on rigging things in a more snag resistant way?
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
That's one thing I really liked about throwing the wacky rig on the river, it stays up in the water column so it doesn't get hung up as much. It's great for skipping under low branches too. I also fish a lot of bitsy bug jigs on the river, they have a light weed guard so as long as you don't set the hook on a log they'll usually slide over it.
@ZombieOnaStick218 жыл бұрын
The wacky sounds perfect then. There are so many low hanging branches and tough spots to reach that make skipping a must around here. The bitsy bug looks good too. Swim jigs kinda slipped my mind even though I use them for large mouth all the time. I see you like to use a lot of top water too. How do you decide what type of bait to try first that day? Just kind of experiment or is it a weather or time of the year kinda thing? Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate the advice.
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
+ZombieOnaStick21 The topwater bite really starts to pick up right around this time of year. I'll usually have the spook on one rod and a jig or something similar on the other so I can switch back and forth until I figure out what they want.
@nutcake398 жыл бұрын
Hey Matt, I was wondering if you've ever fished g loomis, if so what rods and how'd you like them vs the st croix
@ndyakangler8 жыл бұрын
I've never tried a G Loomis. I looked at a few at a local shop and they seemed like nice rods but I've been pretty happy with my St Croix Legend Tournaments so I've stuck with them. Plus the G Loomis rods I was looking at were like $400, a little more than I want to spend on a rod lol.
