My review of the brand new Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 Pen Display and the Wacom Cintiq Pro Engine (which turns your Cintiq into an all-in-one PC!). You will see the unboxing as well as me reviewing it with some of my favourite apps that I use daily. I also ran a few benchmarks with the i5 and the Xeon models (*spoiler*: the latter was unsurprisingly faster).

@AR極樂世界 靈排外星人 Soul Force Medicine Alien UFO If apple was to make a move like that, I sincerely believe that it would be a dedicated and stationary setup and would likely be completely separate from the iPad line. Think of something like an iStudio Pro or something like that. It'd probably start around the price of a Pro 24 Cintiq honestly.

No need to buy it then. Just use your existing hardware. For some people this might be great and others might just want to use other hardware - I think it is nice to have a choice.

@Paul Summerfield I kinda agree with Robert's comment. This is a device for professionals who makes living out of their work so buying this will aid the process and brings back 10x more of what they paid for the item itself. Hobbyist however will have a hard time to get it for just this purpose. The engine is more of space saver rather than a hype but if you have bigger house and a powerful computer, this is completely unnecessary. Artist who lives in apartments will appreciate a beastly tablet with OS already. Still though, my 24HD is still beastly despite of it being almost 5yrs. old and has rack me up 10x on what I paid for with amounts of clients looking up to animated commission. I'm aiming to get the 32Pro with Engine. Assuming how big and how late this one is, I should have lots of money by then to get the last tier.

Hello Robert, great review! I want to find out, does this have an internal battery that is occasionally recharged? Or it requires AC power for function?

@RobertHranitzky 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Emmanuel, Thanks so much. Happy to hear. Neither of these two are powered by a battery and both need a power outlet to be used. The only Cintiq Pro that can be used with a battery is the Mobile Studio Pro (it is technically a Windows based laptop with a built-in Cintiq as a display). Hope this helps.

Romeo Sincere I think atleast 50% of wacom price all goes to it's brand (name). Like comparing Dior purse with DKNY purse, both have the exact same quality except dior is 10 times more expensive cuz of its name really. So fuck wacom and their over priced shit. I'm just gonna settle with ipad pro. Provides every thing I need at a lowest price.

Thanks for the great review Robert. I had a couple of questions, one regarding the fans which you answered below, the other is regarding hotspots. Some of the wacoms suffer with portions of the screen getting a bit toasty. If they use active cooling, I imagine this must happen on this model?

Great vid! When using this for 4k video editing is it easy to see the interface icons, letters and values on screen using the pen? I was thinking of getting the 32 vs 24 just in case everything looked to small on screen of the Cintiq 24. If this isn't the case the I'd go with the 24. Thx!

I am currently cross shopping this Cintiq Pro + Engine and the Mobile Studio Pro. Would you be able to speak to the video editing capabilities of both? I understand that the Mobile Studio Pro is smaller and comes with a 3d capable camera which I will also utilize, but I wonder if getting the increased specs on the new Engine will be better for video editing even though there is an increase price and doesn't come with the 3D cam?

Hello, Robert. I'm somewhat of a collector of odd tech and Wacom, very quietly, killed off the Engine shortly after launch. I have been trying to track one down for quite some time. I was wondering, do you still have yours? Did you have to send it back? If you still have it, is there any way I might be able to take it off your hands?

I have a few questions hopefully your still answering or checking this. 1. I see you use after effects, did you happen to see if the GPU is supported in the AE preferences? And do you happen to use Element 3D v2? Is it compatible? Also I have 64GB of ram in my current PC and 16GB in my mobile studio pro how is your experience in AE with 32GB how’s the timeline scrubbing and pre-rendering? Also have you opened up the engine yet? Does it have two m.2 slots or just one? Lastly they make 32GB Ram sticks the engine says it Maxes out at 32GB but do you think it could take 64GB? the processor says it can. But idk about the motherboard..

Thank you Robert. I have a few questions, im not sure if you or anyone here may know. Is there any word on if the 32" has a higher specification in processors, graphics, etc. And will the engine for the 32 be higher cost then the 24, or is it the same engine mounting for both sizes? At the end of the video i saw you playing a Star Wars Game, and i saw natural light hitting the screen from our pov of the video; which led me to ask, how is the anti-glare on the screen, or is it designed a bit more different with the new glass technology because of the parallax? I love how indepth you shared to all viewers here, i greatly appreciate the information, and i look forward to seeing more from you and many others in the future, Again, Thank you Robert! Great video!

Thanks so much for the kind comments. Glad you like it! More to come ;) As for the Engine: they’re the same for both. Difference is only between the Xeon and the i5! In terms of reflections on the screen: I think that was my camera light that was very bright. The screen itself is pretty matte and also with a special coating to give a haptic feedback when drawing emulating the Pen on paper feel. Anyway it’s not even nearly as reflective as any glossy screen. Thanks again and hope this helps!

any information on the stand for it would be great too, im hoping Ergotron will make a custom mount the rotates just as well as the Wacom made but with more mobility. Wacom's mount doesn't let you move the Tablet too far, but you can rotate it, which helps for ease of use. I imagine all the cross over drawing you did, would also make artists think about how they would adapt functionality to the largest drawing tablet created, i could see moving things over to one side or the other (left handed-or-right). Hand drawing artists the create real murals like to have full range of motion in their stroke when creating artwork. Seeing you guys in action helps us see what we can do in the future. Thank you Again. After all the waiting, im hoping all the planning works out.

Rob - PHENOMENAL REVIEWS ON ALL STUFF WACOM!! I am expecting one any day from B&H (a 24” Cintiq pro i got used at a great price)...to be used exactly how you were using it with your Mac Pro - but for only editing photos and maybe a little Final Cut Pro editing as well. I am hoping i love it, then will buy either the ergotron arm or the desktop stand. Which would you suggest?
@RobertHranitzky
@RobertHranitzky 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the kind words. Very happy to hear this and much appreciated! Honestly I would go with the Flex Arm as it gives a lot more flexibility - for Illustrators I would probably recommend the stand as it is a bit more rigid. Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Hi Robert, great video, very useful to choose if to buy the Pro Engine. A little question about the pro 24: I've just tried it but the new satin glass surface create a strange moiré effect, with tiny and infinite rainbow dots when we use a white document (at the beginning of a painting is really evident). Can you confirm it? Thanks a lot and keep it up!

tommaso renieri Thanks so much! Yes you are right - I noticed that effect as well and found it a little bit distracting at first but got used to it very quickly. I checked with Wacom and it’s due to the structure that makes the tactile paper like feel when you move the Pen on it (which actually is nice!).

@K.L.-
@K.L.- 6 жыл бұрын
Kalindra Mizuel You can turn it into a mobile tablet IF you buy the engine. The engine is going for around $2.5k I believe. The tablet itself is $2k-$2.5k for the 24 inch. If you buy the engine, you don't need a laptop or desktop. Without it, it's like a regular cintiq that'll need a laptop or desktop.

The Cintiq Pro 24/32 are still "just" pen displays (as always), so you can use them with your existing PC/Mac. New is the *option* of sliding in a PC module (Wacom Cintiq Pro Engine) that turns it into an all-in-one solution.

I did not get the full 4K resolution to work when connecting via HDMI to my Mac Pro (2013), even if it would work, it only would run it at 30 Hz. So going via Display Port - and the provided Mini Display Port Adapter (looking like the Thunderbolt one) did the trick and it worked at it's full resolution of 3840 x 2160. I also still had my BenQ 4K screen connected via Display Port too, so both were running fine at 4K!

I just want to know is the wacom cintiq pro 24 really portable with the engine? Like the mobile studio pro. If so how?
@RobertHranitzky
@RobertHranitzky 6 жыл бұрын
yumdumZebra it’s not really portable as it weighs quite a bit, is pretty huge and needs power of course. But what probably is meant, that it is very easy to set up at a different locations, especially if using the Engine. Just two power cables and that’s it.

Kay, no worries, not silly and your English is great! It depends on the laptop, the GPU and it’s capabilities. You should check with your laptops manufacturer and manual to be safe though. If going through Display Port or USB-C chances are that it should be fine. But check please to be sure.

hmm ya I guess that make sense. Sometimes I forget that people dont just stay home all day on their tablet. But I assumed that people who wanted to travel would have gotten the mobile studio pro 16inch or 13inch, because at some point the 24 inch size would seem annoying and heavy to take with you places even if it is just to the living room or something like that.

I've owned Wacom tablets and screens for more than 13 years. They might look nice, but apart from Zbrush, Photoshop and other few optional drawing software, they are completely useless for editing, cg, compositing, 3d, etc. I have a 27 QHD Cintiq with its overpriced stand and I had to make another workstation for it just for drawing because it occupied my whole main desk and never found it 100% comfortable working with it. On my main workstation I now have an Intuos Pro M which I'm really happy with and a much more empty and organized desk. Yea, a Cintiq is unbeatable in Photoshop, or whatever other drawing software, but apart from that It's just a really awkward furniture piece that you constantly have to tilt and move around to make space on the desk for mouse and keyboard whenever you're not painting. Bottom line in my opinion, if you're solely a digital artist and you paint 12 hours a day in Photoshop or whatnot, this is definitely for you and if you can afford one, it's a no brainer, go for it. But if you find yourself somewhere in the middle, doing other stuff for grub, then you might want to consider just a regular nice tablet; it will do the same job, it will be way cheaper, more versatile and it will occupy a fraction of the space.

It was the Touch model that I've tested. Honestly I think I could work just fine with the non-touch model, however it *IS* nice when working in Photoshop or Lightroom to move (or zoom) the image (essentially the hand tool/space bar replacement). That being said, many times I have turned it off, really depending on what I am doing with it. It was also nice to use touch input when I did not have my pen at hand (I ALWAYS misplace them - I know, I should use the stand more!). Also if there is no Keyboard connected (yet), it is also pretty cool to just type on the screen. If you can afford the extra cost for the touch, then go for it (you can always toggle it on/off).

Wow. I'm truly amazed. Ahh, don't judge me here (because I'm such a beginner compared to you) but I have an idea. I am a painter/artist and so I work with real paint and brushes. I also love illustration and photography. My issue is my current computer is a 13" MacBook Pro 2010. : ) I'm looking to upgrade. At first I was thinking about getting a new MacBook Pro but with the lack of ports and no touchscreen I looked to a Dell or the Microsoft Surface Studio. I checked the Surface Studio out at the Microsoft store here in NYC and didn't like it at all. The parallax issue made me nauseous. Also, I did not like the glossy screen, it lacked USB-C, and it is too expensive. I also don't know the Windows operating system at all. But then my endless search brought me to this video. I am stunned with your knowledge and brilliance at using digital media. Could I get something like this and use it as my stand-a-lone computer? Being such a newbie to digital drawing I would need to take lessons. I would also like to learn Adobe Premiere Pro so I would have to find a tutor. I have a steep learning curve but if you could recommend the Wacom Cintiq Pro 24 or 32 for someone in my position then maybe you could recommend a tutor in NYC that could teach me some of these programs also?
@RobertHranitzky

First of all thanks so much for your kind words and taking the time to reach out! This really motivates me to continue doing what I do. With regards to your questions: well, with the Engine you can make it a standalone computer - kind of an iMac with a Pen and Touch, but with Windows ;) Personally I would not switch my main workflow to windows but integrate it as good as I can if must use windows (e.g. VR stuff, 3D, etc). It is a pretty powerful machine and for digital art it is more than enough. For Premiere Pro or editing in general it can never be too fast. It also depends on what you want to edit? HD, 4K or 8K? The last two are probably a bit too much but it depends on the formats etc. Unfortunately I can’t recommend any tutors I in the NY area that I know personally but I can ask around. Drop me a message via my website or Fb please. Hops this helps!

Thanks for this video! Finally 4K wacom with a perfect size. But! They should have put a 100x100mm VESA mount on the back. Anti-smudge gloves or whatever they are called is a standard thing to wear using a product like this and they should come with this tablet. Or atleast a anti-scratch cover on top. The standard 200$ stand should be in the box as well. The price should be around 1000$ WITH the stand. It's a 60hz 24" 4K display with a pen and a remote control. Nothing more, nothing less. The Dell P2415Q monitor costs around 400$ and has almost the same specs, except that the screen is not interactive with a pen. So why this bizzare pricetag Wacom?

Dell Canvas has much lower pixels per inch with its 1440p resolution, whereas the Cintiq Pro is 4K. This makes a big difference with big screens. Wacom will always be ahead of the curve, since their focus is on specialized pro artist tools. But this is good for everybody. People who want the premium stuff now, and can afford it, go for Wacom, whereas more budget-friendly stuff by other companies follow in the footsteps. Wacom innovates (at a premium), others emulate (on a budget). It's a win-win for consumers.
@3polygons
@3polygons 6 жыл бұрын
As far as I have understood while watching A Dell Canvas review, it has the same internals than the previous top end cintiq model , the 27" QHD, not the current Cintiq PRO 32". That previous model did actually have 1440p as its resolution (though display port). I 'd be immensely happy with those specs my self, by very far... At a company, having the budget, and asked about what I'd prefer, lol, yeah, the new 32".... ;) More important to me than the resolution - 1440p is fine with me, even at that enormous tablet size- is the fact of the tablet supporting 97% of Adobe RGB color space. Plus all those other high quality internals that you'd notice while drawing or staring at the screen 24/7. If anything, I'd love they'd make one 22 model (ya hear me, Wacom?), non touch, non wireless (as an excuse to reduce the price, as I don't need those features that badly) at the price of one of the fierce cheap competition, the alternatives. A sub 1k bucks model from Wacom or DELL, I'd purchase in a blink...Specially if keeping at least the Adobe RGB color space support and the QHD or 24" inches tablet internals/pen of previous generation. Well, what the heck, just a Dell canvas 22", they simply decided not to bet for that... :/ . If the Canvas is around 1500 euros or so, I can't see why they can't produce a 22 inches with same philosophy. It could totally win over the alternatives if costing a bit less than 1k. And so Wacom would keep ppl under their Wacom or Dell associate umbrella...

"We appreciate your buying a Cintiq 24 pen display and are deeply sorry that the product does not meet your (and our) high standards. We want to assure you that we stand behind every product we sell and will replace the Cintiq if you are unhappy with the quality or performance of the device. The fan noise you have experienced depends on many factors. In the design of the Cintiq 24 we have to balance on-screen temperature and the noise of the cooling system. Our goal is provide a drawing surface that is cool to the touch and avoid high temperatures that cause the skin to sweat ,making it difficult to draw smoothly. Unfortunately, to achieve usable brightness, a 4K panel requires a stronger backlight than older generation with lower resolution screens. This results in more heat which has to be removed by fans from the LCD. Depending on the brightness, the content being shown and the ambient temperature, the fans will run faster or slower which can create more noise. If you find the fan noise to be excessive, try reducing the brightness or moving the display away from sunlight and other sources of heat." - wacom despite me being in cold England with 50 percent brightness and the 5k imac pro and 4k surface studio are silent (plus they could have used so dollar silent running fans)

The engine seems kinda meh. Buying a laptop without a screen for over $3k? I'm not saying they could have done it cheaper but it still doesn't make it enticing. I nearly bought one of these today along with a CintiqPro24 Touch but decided I will never purchase anything from Wacom, ever. First, their website is buggy AF and full of dead links. Then, after finally managing to fill my shopping cart with over 6,000€ of toys and entering my shipping information, I could not advance to the payment screen. I tried the customer service chat window to see if they could help complete my purchase and they were completely useless. Then I thought, dead links, buggy estore, and useless customer support... if it’s this difficult to give Wacom my money, heaven knows how difficult it will be to get any tech support once I actually own the product should I need it. And if their ecommerce site is any indication, I’m going to need it because they obviously don’t care about quality control. No thank you. Not for me.

So, the “engines” are Windows based ONLY. No “engine” for running Mac OS X/macOS, and Mac drawing/painting aps, huh. I can purchase the tablet, but won’t be able to ever purchase and use these engines to install any of my Mac software. Kinda of disappoints there for the Mac user to be able to have a larger, portable drawing device and computer engine built-in. Mac users get left out of this kind of technology, once again. This with an “engine” computer module is well out of my budget range, anyways! Still waiting for Dell to do a Mac-compatible version of their large and less expensive monitor drawing tablet, too!
