I had a 10th gen iPad kzbin.infoUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

A good way to compare these two machines is to say that the Cintiq is like a desktop program, and the iPad is a mobile app. The Cintiq is a purpose built machine for maximum productivity. The iPad is an extension of that productivity by allowing you to get some more work done while away from the shop. If you doing production level work and time matters, then something like the Cintiq is a must. If you're not working on the clock, then a tablet allows you to create wonderful art. The difference is about time and productivity. Not quality. Both can do amazing stuff.

...And psychology sometimes. I have a cintiq 13hd and work as digital artist, yet sometimes It takes lots of time to warm up and really gets things going. I realised I do things faster when I see my cintiq as if it's "paper and pencil" instead of a computer screen, but I bet it would be easier with an ipad, since it's lighter, easier to move and I'm close to its screen. The best thing to do is borrowing and testing before buying, so you get to see which one really works best specifically for you.

@Sonic the Artist you pay for quality. If your an artist, 3-4 grand for something your going to make 10k plus on is a small investment. Plus now and again you can write things off as a business expense. I know people who spend 10s of thousands of dollars on their equipment, but they make that money back in 2-3 years easily. It’s interesting how everybody works differently. I set up my Cintiq to where I don’t use the keyboard at all. I slide the keyboard under the screen, then pull the screen down completely covering the keyboard so it isn’t even visible. Then I use the EK Remote for almost everything. In addition to that, Wacom software allows you to create toolbars with icons/functions for anything. So I set up a couple of those toolbars and for some of my lesser used functions rather than having to dig into a menu. Between that and the EK Remote, I have access to everything without ever going back to the keyboard. I feel like it gives me the fastest workflow. I keep one hand on the EK Remote at all times and I can do most actions without having to look at it. I can do them by feel, like using the home keys on a keyboard. I also don’t use the touch screen model. I just work faster when I have physical controls. I also have an iPad Pro. My wife uses it exclusively because sitting at the desktop and using the Cintiqs hurts her back. So she sits on the couch, or on the floor and places the ipad Pro on the table. The workflow is a lot slower so if I’m at home, it’s always best to use the Cintiq in terms of speed. Especially with highly customizable programs like Clip Studio Paint. But the iPad Pro is very nice.
@adarsh95585 жыл бұрын

Great comparison, thanks for posting this. This is the kind of issue we as illustrators are confronted with nowadays, so super to have this outlined here. As a professional illustrator for more then 30 years I have used numerous Wacom tablets and Cintiqs - I remember buying the first screen/tablet hybrid ever that Wacom released (around 2001 I think), it was a miracle to start drawing on this 15 inch model…. exactly what I needed at the time. No sure if this was already called a Cintiq. In my view, Cintiqs became worse and worse over the years: image quality worsened because of the coating on top, really degrading the crisp view that the earlier models featured. And adding fans (that really sound bad and loud) degraded the experience even more for me. I started seeing them as bulky machines that took away any joy of using them. Nowadays, I use an iPad Pro when I need to sketch, draw or paint with pixels, and also for creating lines for my cartoon artwork (Affinity Designer for iPad is the most perfect tool for this, for me). All my other vector artwork is created on my iMac Pro, with just an Intuos 5 M. This combination works perfectly well and fast for me. But I realise that it is all up to personal preference.

In comparison, the Cintiq is a chunky thing attached to your desk and it only serves the purpose of drawing.

You should definitively check out Affinity Designer, it is much faster then photoshop or illustrator, you can smoothly zoom even with thousand of layers. It also can open psd or ai files, doesn’t require subscription and is available on macOS and iPadOS (and windows). Even on the iPad Pro it works great and you can have your main design tool always with you. The Affinity applications (Designer, Photos and Publisher) are the first that feels solid enough to replace Adobe main applications (Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign).

Nice review! I have the same Cintiq Pro 24 with the touch features, though I should've saved my money as I always turn it off. I use the Wacom Ergo arm rather than the big stand. It's a couple hundred cheaper, frees up your desk, and gives you more versatility in screen placement. I'd easily recommend that before the giant stand. Also keep in mind, some of your lag may be due to your Macbook Pro struggling to keep up. I've hooked mine up to a custom built PC and it's smooth as glass on projects with hundreds of layers at hi-res in Photoshop CC 2019. NOTE: There is a LOW FAN SPEED OPTION in your Wacom Cintiq settings. Make sure you have the latest Firmware and driver upgrades on the screen. It makes a huge difference! I also bought an iPad Pro 11" to see how I'd like it. I returned it 3 days later as the workflow just doesn't work for me, as I tried getting into Procreate. There's too many sacrifices, plus I don't travel enough to justify it. The Apple Pen 2 is nice, but I still think Wacom's Pro Pen 2 is far superior, plus it doesn't use batteries. If I needed a mobile solution, I'd probably buy the Wacom Mobile Studio Pro so it's an identical workflow to the home studio setup. Again, nice review!

Idk if anyone has mentioned a lap desk for the iPad pro :) About to get one for myself bc I also have a drawing tablet and the iPad and I've been using the iPad way more bc it is portable and not tied down with cables. I can draw on my porch, my couch, etc.

Let's be honest. If you aren't getting paid for your artwork; the Wacom option isn't practile. You can buy the iPad pro and sell your art to get your money up; then add the Wacom to your studio. I see no strong argument to this.

When drawing on the iPad Pro, does resting your wrist on the screen mess up the image while using the pen?
@BravetheWoods4 жыл бұрын
Silver Hawk I don’t really run into that problem very often. Sometimes a stray finger makes a mark, but it is pretty good at detecting the pencil over my hand. But if you are struggling with that, there are super cheap finger gloves that are made to combat that.

What a great setup. I think it is great that you invest in your tools the way you do, as many professionals are constantly hedging. I slept in cars, and used credit cards to start my businesses several decades ago, so that I had the tools and marketing budget to give the best chance for success. Some things are superfluous, but I'm sure I am speaking the obvious to you when I say that a top notch tablet for a serious graphics professional, that definitely isn't superfluous. There is no greater ROI, and I am sure that it helps motivate and support the way you work. Great channel BTW.

Ayy thank you so much. I'm torn between getting one or the other- I think I'm leaning towards the iPad. They HAVE fixed the snapping issue on it! It charges through magnetic resonance by attaching directly to the frame at the top haha!

Thanks for watching! I will have to take a look at the new iPadOS and try out the Cinitq Pro 13. Once I do I will be sure to make a new video ;)

For me, paying $779 (a 12.9 inch 2nd gen new sealed at ebay) and being able to do school stuff, media consumption and still draw at so many levels is definitely perfect. Maybe a professional needs some more, but for hobbyist I guess there's no necessity on buying a wacom. Also, I heard about professional whose also use iPad, like for tattoos and lettering. Saw once at the comments of one video about pixar artists using it as well, but idk. Anyway, for a non professional artist, think the iPad is just the perfect choice. Search for "how I take notes on my iPad" if u are a student, guess it is really helpful if u go to art classes.

@jeanyvescoffy83155 жыл бұрын
For me, you are totally wrong :o Android is far above apple , true multitask, opened to the world, more choice, customisation, etc etc. Huion is far behind Wacom. Despite Wacom very high price, their products are the absolute best on the market, in every.single.way. Apple was this, long time ago. Now it's dead.

I own the Wacom Cintiq 24HD. (first generation) One thing that still bothers me, is the fact that the brightness just wasn't bright enough. I experienced the screen as quite dark, no matter how much I tried calibrating the device. And -because of it- the colors were always kinda "off". So I constantly have to move the drawing to another screen to see what the colors looked light on "normal" screens. In this video Cintiq seems to be (almost) as bright as the second screen or even the iPad. Am I wrong or is that much better now? I'm considering selling my Cintiq 24HD and going for the iPad Pro. Huge doubts, hard choice.

Great review, very insightful! I do a lot of CAD work as a fashion designer but I'd like to see if using a pen on a Wacom or the 2018 iPad pro would help make my CADing faster. The new Mac OS Catalina is supposed to be able to Airplay to the iPad Pro but will have a slight lag, they also said it can connect through USB-C which would lessen the lag. I'm curious if this would make it a better option for me since I travel a lot. If illustrator would come out with an iPad app it'd be a no brainer for me, but unfortunately still waiting for that.

How would you compare the touch screen functionality and rotation between the iPad Pro and the Cintiq Pro? I'm in the market for upgrading to a large-model Cintiq, but one of my biggest concerns is the mixed reviews of the expensive touch functionality on the Cintiq Pros.
@kmidst_kn63294 жыл бұрын
Of all computer accessories, I would have expected a screen for drawing to be medium price, not one of the MOST expensive. God damn. I feel like companies are testing the market to see just how much they can charge for things.

Kinda digged the slanted stand as it’s also functional for laptops. I do have an iPad Pro 11in though, the descriptions seems to be only for 12.9in, would it really be an issue? Would you happen to know if it would work alright? Thanks a lot for this video, thoroughly informative.

On apple pencil; there should be a small adapter with it, with that you can charge it using a standard ipad/iphone charger plugged into the wall. I use that all the time. Works fine! Second thing; i have a (old) standard apple cover for the 12,9” ipad, which serves as a stand aswell. Maybe not as tilted as your 12 south one, but it works, and protects the ipad also (front and back).

You're review is great! But I still don't really know what is best for me. Lag and productivity are really important to me. I am considering getting the ipad pro 2020 10.5" or the cintiq pro 13.3". I've heard great things about both, but I have heard more complaints about the cintiq. I will be buying a macbook air as well for college, where I plan on studying in the art/business field. I have a wacom intuos, but I really want to upgrade to a tablet with a screen.

Of course! I use my Cintiq for when I need to work on large projects in Photoshop. Both large in dimension and file size. I've done maps and children's books on the Cintiq, which was great. For the iPad Pro, I use for most of my general illustration projects because I like the drawing experience better. I hope that helps!

My concern is if I can do the same I would be able to do on a cintiq, on an ipad. Because they have different softwares. Im worried that I might have limited options if I get an ipad pro, but at the same time the ipad seems much easier to use considering theres a lot of touch shortcuts which to me is important. The easier it is to use the device, the more comfortable I'll feel. Any advice?
@diegoshepherd22885 жыл бұрын
Well, let me try to assist you... There will be differences in the functionality of both devices, yes. The iPad is going to use Apple's iPadOS as its operating system, which will limit it to apps available on the App store, or apps included by Apple by default. The Cintiq, however, doesn't have those boundaries because it is just simply reflecting what is on your monitor, thus there won't be limitations since you can have both Windows, MacOS, Linux, etc, running on it. If you want a personal recommendation, I recommend purchasing the iPad Pro, for it will provide you with a wonderful drawing experience, and besides that all of the portability and versatility of the device... And really, when it comes to that point... you really just simply need to master your tools rather than prioritizing one of them based on the excellence of their functionality, they both are great, but the iPad Pro is a far better deal in spite of your level of expertise or work, really.
