this song is amazing because it's on diary of underage observation. every song in that album is the sad story of a girl with serious life problems or mental issues, meanwhile this song is literally just "ok boomer"

i mean technically she deals with stress of having high standards from adults she lives around and so VR is her escape from reality

It's a very clear reference to how many children of today choose devices as an escapist device due to high stress in the real world so. Cheerful! But kinda depressing in a realist way

It actually has just as much meaning as the other songs in the album, it's just a lot more concealed until the last verse or so. While the tune and vibe are overall cheery, the picture the song paints is actually one that explores the concepts of fantasy vs reality and the mentality of escapism. It just examines this issue through the lens of the generational gap. While the young girl in the song is clearly using the VR World to distract herself from the weight of reality and the expectations and trappings that come alongside, she muses that the adults that are constantly berating her for living in a fantasy are themselves deluded. However, instead of using a virtual world to escape reality, they live within their own minds, twisting the remnants of their fading memories until they can use it to reinforce a narrative that convinces them that things were better for them without all the glitz and glamor of modern technology. They do this to keep themselves from questioning just how bad things really were "back in the good old days" before they were truly aware and not blissfully ignorant children, and use a child herself as the scapegoat, claiming that instead she is delusional. Every song on the album is layered and pretty commentary-laden if you know how to scrutinize them, even if some are slightly more opaque than others.

And is a irony. The girl wanted to dance into the ' real world ', but she couldn't, to the point virtual reality was everything left . This sound cheerful caus the girl is self aware, she was defeated, and now she scapes what she can't fight.
i love the world building. its amazing how this song has the whole sci fi feel and the whole boomers of the future saying the future kids are using too much vr lmao

Explanation: a girl who has really strict parents who don’t allow her to do anything she’s really passionate about dancing but her parents won’t allow her to do that either and she often times feel as though she’s in jail so she tries to escape reality so she gets this virtual headset and dances in that made up world instead

@Mittens pretty sure that that part is talking about adults saying stuff like "back in my day we didn't have [xyz]" to tell us we basically shouldn't use electronics
@nerobright99594 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%! Adding on to clarify some of the other lyrics: the girl's parents don't allow her to use any electronics like TV or phones at home because they think it'll "corrupt" her, so she ends up smuggling electronics (from the lyrics, it's probably that someone left their phone in a classroom and she pocketed it for herself.)

Hmmm... I think that's taking the lyrics too literally, in my personal opinion. The way I see it, it's all a metaphor. She's been stuck in "hard labor" for 18 years, which is a strangely particular amount of time. Except, when do high schoolers get out of high school? When they're 18. Japan has a very toxic work culture, you can see this in things like the high rates of suicide and accounts like ShibuyaMeltdown, which show businessmen asleep in random places because they're so burnt out. This even applies to school, but less so, and in a very interesting way. See, for kids who're in school, they are currently (most likely) at a time period where they'll have the most free time and fun in most of their life. This is why high school is such a popular setting in Japan, it's an escape to "the last happy time" in a lot of folks' lives. Still, while in school, many kids are still so stressed by the overabundance of work, and so they feel trapped, and without any of the freedoms of the adult world, a lot feel like prisoners. So, they turn to escapism. The protag of this song is turning to escapism, "dancing in the VR World" to escape her problems in a way she believes will separate her from the adults she has seen all her life. Part of the way in, though, her escapism is brutally removed by this toxic work culture, replaced by a new form of escapism, just like the adults, the idea that the "old days were better," and that this nostalgia escapism is a trap we all fall to as humans.
