Where should I start here definitely a lot less fun bidding online than it is to be in person at live auctions in my opinion. There’s just something about seeing the person you’re bidding against the excitement and the adrenaline, The parts of storage unit buying that’s almost as fun as actually winning the unit!
However this description is about online bidding techniques. There’s only a few that I typically use because of the nature of how you’re buying the storage units.
Ultimately sometimes I do recommend new buyers especially people that don’t like confrontation or would possibly be timid at live storage auctions to actually focus more on online buying. Only you know if you’re that person and that is completely fine if you are! That’s the beautiful thing about online auctions once you win the only other person you have to see is the staff member in which you’re buying the unit from at the facility.
Just consider yourself a sniper if you only buy online be very picky and examine the photos as best as you possibly can. You’re looking for those homerun units with bad photos so you get incredible prices.
And yes you can aggressively bid online as well please watch all the video above.

So i am only interested in bidding with the bid being visible. I dont want to blindly bid and not know what the high bid is. So any recommendations? Lockerfox was my 1dt choice. Glad that you mentioned that one. Thanks for tips.

You didn’t mention what I call “free roll” units. They are when the facility has the same pictures on two different size units and you know that they have the wrong pictures on one or the other. If you see a 10x20 and a 5x10 unit and both have the same pictures of a 5x10 unit then you bid the 10x20 you go pay for it and when they open the door you make a snap decision of weather you want it for the price you paid or not, if not tell them this is not the unit in the pictures and they will refund your money. You would be surprised how often this happens. I will only bid if it is close to me and I won’t be investing much time, I have done this a few times and once bought a unit I would have paid in excess of $1,000 for and got it for $160. I also bought a 10x40 (rv storage indoor unit) for $10 once hoping for a huge surprise and boy did I get one, it would have cost me thousands in time and dump fees so naturally I passed.

But even if your max bid is more than you put in say you’re willing to pay 1000.00 can you put 500.00 max bid but then if it goes over 500.00 can you go back in and change your max bid a second time to like 1000.00 what you were only going to pay the start with.

I have a question i just picked up two storage units i won and this was my first time doing this so in the picture it looks like the boxes were full but when I got there they were empty or litterly had nothing but garbage in them. The only good thing i got were a dollie in one and a dollie and ladder in the other not even worth the hour drive and 200 bucks i spent. And the other thing i noticed is that everything was already ran sacked and the guy even made a comment that the unit had not been touched it was a fresh unit so i asked him what do you mean he said oh you know first dibbs and I should of asked him more questions but I didn't so what does that mean who gets first dibs on these units?

That sounds like they pick through the unit and take the stuff they like and you should file a dispute with the bank if what you got doesn't match the photo description and write a bad Google review

Same thing happened to me on my first unit that I bought. Everything was there from what could be seen in the pictures but there was a lot of trash in the boxes that I couldnt sell but luckily I was able to make my money back with the items that were able to be sold
