Thanks for sharing. I was given a set of these plans as a gift, but haven't built it yet. I like the advertised performance specifications, the classic Piper looks, and it's based on the PA-14 which is the airplane Nate Saint flew.

Thanks, Jeffro, Great to hear from someone that has built it! And see some real-world performance. Thanks for taking the time! I received my plans a week ago.

Thanks! I’m approaching 4 years on the same project. Fuselage done, one wing built-I’m using the wood wings and adding flaps. I also have opted for the jack screw trim. Nice to see it flying!

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Good luck with your project - it's a tough haul but worth the effort. The only real negatives to the 2+2 are its cabin width and airspeed. It's fairly easy to land - just keep it straight and ease the stick back until it touches down. It can be a challenge in rough air - heavier the better in that case - but in normal conditions flies very nice and trims well.

@@jeffrotullstein I like the design-based on the PA 14. Happily I am at the FAA size and my wife is petite. Curious about your engine, as in weight and hp. I’m going with a Lycoming, but wavering between O 320 and O 360.

Very nice project. I did one too a wag aero super sport with my dad too. There’s always lots you wished to do different after your done. I’m very grateful for doing one. It does take dedication. And I can relate to wag aero plans being vague on some things. Keep the videos coming.

Thanks for the review ! It sounds like a fun and useful plane. Honestly if i had to weld the fuselage up myself i don't think I'd want to fly it . Lol I'm a good mechanic but not so good at welding and fabrication. I was just looking at their website and see their offering a welded fuselage but it is unavailable at the moment. I think I'm going to keep this and the glassair in mind they sound like what I'm after. Thanks again for the review !

Hey just curious do the wings fold back on them?

No folding wings on the Wag-Aero 2+2.

About to start building the second 2+2 airframe I've built, the first being 25 yrs ago. Never finished that one due to training, but the fuselage, tail feathers and gear was pretty much finished. This one will be 4-5" wider though, as the 39" interior width isn't very wide for a "four-place" aircraft. Did you keep track of the number of hours you spent on the project? You cite a 5-yr minimum build time, but how many hours per year are you talking about? How
@jeffrotullstein

I started working about 16 hrs per week (Tue & Thu evenings and all day every 2nd Sat) for about 2 yrs, getting the landing gear and the fuselage built, doors on, rudder, elevator, stabilizer and trim system. My book says 2510 hrs on airframe and 608 hrs on the engine install but my first engine was a 3.8 L Ford V6 ... this is the one and only airplane I've built; since you have previous experience you may be able to go faster and plan better. Good luck with your project; it's a worthwhile endeavour. Jeff

Whould wheel pants and some fairings on the gear not help reduce drag and up the speed somewhat ?
@jeffrotullstein
@jeffrotullstein 2 жыл бұрын
Maybe but I doubt it would give more than 1-3 mph ... for reference, I tried going to smaller tires and it didn't help at all. Also added gear leg, lift strut and flap- hinge fairings with negligible effect.

Curious what your thoughts would be on the Bear Hawk? Comparing it to the wag aero.
@jeffrotullstein
@jeffrotullstein 2 жыл бұрын
The Bear Hawk has very similar specs but it comes with a slightly wider cabin and better access to baggage area; it also has PA-22 style landing gear Vs Super Cub gear, so could be a bit faster ... it's a very good alternative.
