The narrator is amazingly talented and pulls you in to the story. “Viscount” pronunciation bugged me but it was more than compensated for by her gift of story telling 😎👍🏼

Goodness! That was quite the ride but glad they got their happy ending. As for the narration, I’ve heard worse and if it bothers you so much, perhaps you should think about paying for the book instead.

Thank you so much for makings a clean romance novel, and for specifying that in the description. I like to listen to oudiobooks while driving, and sometimes I have passengers present. Sometimes those passengers are not old enough for inappropriate content, but they love dipping their feet in romance novels. So I always look for a warning of mature content in the description before i turn it on. However, many romance novelist don't warn you ahead of time. After an extremely awkward situation one time, I became really cautious. If there's no warning, I usually skip those novels even if their description sounds very intriguing. I wish all novelist would caution their listeners/readers of a mature content. I'm not squeamish, however I'd like to know what to expect so I can have a better controll of the timing.

How hideous her life has been. 😢 Cockell actually implies he will abuse her if she marries him. Hooray for Sheldon who is so observant. And I agree Thomas the butler deserves a knighthood. The chess imagery was very clever, especially in the climax. An intriguing yet horrifying story. I am so glad we as women have more rights now.

Not according to Wiki. Heir apparent or heir are interchangeable, somewhat, meaning they both mean the next person in line for the title or inheritance. Usually "heir apparent" is used when the original inheritor is still alive; or that seems to be common usage of that term. In either case, it means that person cannot be replaced by any other in terms of inheritance. "Heir presumptive" usually means someone not in a direct line of inheritance (like a son), according to country laws and customs, and the heir presumptive can be bumped down the inheritance list by the birth of someone in more direct line.

In regency times they often pronounced in the 'old french' way as is marquis. don't like the narator - buy the book. Or be grateful you can listen to lovely story for free

Just CANNOT ignore the MIS pronouncement of Viscount any more. Once is cringeworthy enough but the constant mispronunciation is almost taking away from the storyline. It is VI count , the S is silent. I do wish those who choose a career as a narrator bother to actually learn how to pronounce words they will have to narrate in a reading. It shows ignorance. Being able to put on a fake Upper Crust plummy voice is not enough. Some narrators are just brilliant at the various voices they produce and others who do this work need to do more research on just pronunciation of english words alone.. I am trying very hard now just to ignore ' vis count' just to enjoy the story😏

@Miss_Judy no it's not AI, the narrator is Kathryn Vinclaire and her constant mispronunciations of Visount and Marquis have almost distracted me from the storyline. But I am trying very hard to,'ignore' the ignorance of correct english. Unfortunately too many narrators think a over exaggerated plummy 'upper crusty ' voice is enough when reading Regency works, it is not, enough sadly. Then there are others who are totally brilliant.

Brilliant and VERY expensive. That's why these audiobooks are such a gift, esp when given with Stevie Zimmerman as narrator (and others who bother to research pronunciation) At least this one gives different voices to the characters & her inflections are fantastic!

Oh please, this writer is incompatent. 1. Rifles were invented by then but were extremely rare for the regency period. 2. Rifles of the period only had 1 shot and then had to be reloaded using powder, a ball and a thrusting rod. In no way could Marianne have been in any danger from any rifle at that time. A pair of 1 shot pistols would have been a far more normal choice of weapon and both the women would not have been shot as he had already fired it twice outside the carriage. How silly.

Goodness what a lazy narrator. So easy and quick to look up and hear a sound bite of how to pronounce both Marquis (Mar kwis) and Vi count. Also, being the daughter of a Viscount, Marianne would correctly be called 'The Honourable Miss Twisden'. It really is a very simple job of any good writer to get such a thing right especially as that is what she is specialising in. Yes, I know I don't have to listen but there are not too many free books to be had. I wouldn't have complained but Viscount this and Viscount that said so many times incorrectly has become more than a little irritating.

The mispronunciations drove me nuts - apart from the unforgivable visscount, a marquis is a marquiss, not a markease and a blackguard is a blagguard, not a black guard. Correct pronounciation is a basic requirement of storytelling. The story and its production were devalued by the poor pronounciation and understanding of words. Who error checked before mastering? I abandoned it.

Great narration and characterization, and then...The VISSCOUNT. Honestly, I don't care if the old English custom was to wreck the French language in spite, please Narrators, use correct pronunciation of "foreign" words. I swear it just sounds totally ignorant. Despite this, I have been enjoying the storyline. Butchering non English words (whatever that means, because English is a mish mash anyway) is just so...triggering. Lol. Kudos overall, but marked down because of this issue.
