Waikiki Beachboys say they belong back on the beach, eye upcoming contract

The highly sought-after contract to manage beach activities, including surfboard rentals and lessons at Kuhio Beach in the center of Waikiki, is expected to be up for grabs in just two months.

I lived there back in 2007 to 2012, they weren’t very kind. No businesses on the beach.

I remember Sammy the Steamboat Mokuahi(?) from watching pro-wrestling in the '70's! He was a "good guy" taking on the bad guys like Ripper Collins. My favorite was "Handsome Johnny Barend." And he used to tell pidgin fairy tales. So funny!

Bring them back!!! They look out for everyone. They kept the beach clean and they know how to professionally approach tourist and locals from breaking the law like smoking near the buildings, on the beach or drinking alcohol. We locals felt safer seeing The Beach Boys. You could feel that they cared for the beach and the visitors and wasn’t just there for the money. Funny the ones who no like um probably the ones who doing no good. Good luck Waikiki.

Growing up in Waikiki in the 60ies and 70ies, I saw the beachboys every day. They were far from friendly! Just bullies on the beach and entitled in the water. In all my years, I've never witnessed beach boys exhibiting the 'aloha spirit.' Hawaii and Waikiki are better off without them and the local people know it! But no one cares.. Hang loose and have a mimosa! 🤙

Tickets and wristbands on the public beach if you get board/umbrella. How about scrutinize the sole vendor you deemed capable of managing the tourist mess. Should take down the Duke statue, Id say he's already turning in his grave...

Problem is homeless drug addicted and crimes against tourists . Need to change laws with homeless 3 tickets after refusing help a one way ticket to the mainland even if born here and no return .
