I do wonder how these world happiness indexes are done, do they have questionnaires they're handing out or what? Because if they did, the Finnish happiness level would be something else - the people here are so depressed half of the time, mainly because of the darkness and coldness that lasts way too long for anyone's liking. Or maybe I'm just surrounded with these people way too much to see a genuinely happy person and even then I would question what type of medication they're on and where I could get some.

The happiness index has nothing to do with people actually being happy. It is based on what the "experts" believe *should* bring people happiness. Then see if the country matches those criteria. Basically it's a biased source. Sort of like how the human development index is based on how closely a society represents liberal social democrat values, rather the actual livelihood of the people living in it. For example if societies laws are structured that it has women in high place in society greater than 50% percent of the time (which the UN would consider equality for some reason), but it is very difficult to have a family and the country have collapsing birthrates (families and replacemnt level birth rates are critical for survival of society/civilization), it would still rank highly on HDI. These indexes should be taken with massive grains of salt

@@sasi5841 at least it's not about perceived happiness, it's about average level, and it turns out that Finland has a average better than everyone, it's extremely safe for everyone, and if poverty is low that also counts as happiness. Even if we have this image as finish people being depressing, that doesn't mean that the average is like that.
