For me, I've seen a lot of people ask why Amity was so mean to Willow in the beginning if the reason she became 'bad' was to protect Willow and/or to appease her parents, despite the fact that Amity and Willow were alone and Amity didn't need to pretend in front of anyone. But the thing is is that people are products of their environments. Idk if this is just my inner psych student talking lmao, but if you grow up in a toxic environment surrounded by mentally abusive and/or neglectful parents, mean/bullying friends, and siblings who don't know the difference between a casual prank and plain old cruelty, no matter how good of a person you are or how strong-willed, it is almost inevitable that you will become corrupted, or even become just as bad as them -- ESPECIALLY if you are as young as Amity was, and already had a pre-existing desire to impress them. So in the beginning I think that Amity being mean was just an act and a way to distance herself from Willow, but over time, she actually did become that person -- which is even sadder, honestly. Although this is no excuse for how she treated Willow, it is a step towards understanding Amity and her actions and enabling her to become a better person.

I'm so glad that Amity started dating Principal Bump's grandson; it really set up her epic betrayal that doomed the Boiling Isles to sink and forced Luz to sacrifice her mother (the real Good Witch Azura) to return home alone. Luz's brutal PTSD recovery scenes in Season 3 are worth seeing every other character in the show turn to stone and sink beneath the Boiling Sea. Too dark? I think I went too dark.

Amity's whole character, as it is now, has been laid out. Forced into a friend group with people she can't stand, her one real friendship forcibly and forbidden from making any more. This was the start of the spiral, leading to where we are now. Bullying Willow was an outlet for Amity, a self-destructive one seeing as she still cared about her. She'd feel awful about severing her friendship, take it out on Willow, feel awful about that, and the cycle would repeat. Amity DOES deserve a fair bit of the blame, she could have chosen not to bully her when no one was around to expect it of her, or try to push Boscha's group to just ignore her, but it's just as likely Boscha wouldn't be moved on the bullying, and we can't forget that it was Amity's parents who set the whole thing in motion. At least the cycle's halted now, just have to start the apologies and the healing. Also, nuggies

In an interview recently, after the fiasco with Owl House's third season being cut to just 3 45 minute specials, Dana Terrace mentioned that she had pitched her idea for a series to Disney, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon. Of those three, Disney was the most receptive of her plans for Amity, Willow's parents, and at least one other character that will be met later. So, while Disney might not have the best reputation for certain portrayals, and has earned it, they were aware of some of Dana's plans going into this and approved them.

Yes, Willow has two dads and it’s completely normal! 😁 I love that this episode is setting up one in season 2 where Amity’s parents find out that Amity is pulling away from the friends they picked for her in favor of Luz, Willow, and Gus. Not only do they ground her, but when Luz & co. arrive to rescue her, the Blight parents mind-control Amity and force her to fight her friends! It was horrifying! (But the fight did look awesome with the animation bump!) And Luz ended up with an eyebrow scar that will always be a reminder to Amity of what happened. 😢

There's some extra hidden codes apart from the season-long ones in this episode. The three books on the shelf with titles in runes say this: "LORE" "CREATION OF THE ISLES" "THE TITAN AND HIS SPAWN" This is how Amity knew how to summon the last titan, as I mentioned in my comment last episode. The information about the last titan's location is just sitting at your local public library for anyone to find, as long as you know what you're looking for! Well, it WAS, at least. Obviously, the emperor can't have that sort of information getting out, so his right-hand man went to check out the relevant book and intentionally didn't return it. The fiend! So, Amity had to "convince" him to give it up so as to continue her cupcake-related rivalry with King. The tools she used to accomplish the aforementioned convincing were fire and abominations!

5:30 something I noticed is Skara's reaction here. She seems like she was genuinely just asking about Amity and Willow's history. She seems to be honestly ambivalent toward Willow. She doesn't seem to actively target her, like Boscha does, just goes along with whatever the it crowd is doing. Which is still bad, since Amity also seems to mostly act passively in directing them at this point, too, leaving basically Boscha to call the shots. And we've known the kind of person Boscha is since episodes 6 and 8 (the moonlight conjuring and King in Luz's body in the Body swap episode, in case you've forgotten). But the point of that is that Skara seems the type of bully who will naturally grow out of it, and won't be a bully if the popular kids aren't. Boscha seems the type of bully that will need a genuine shift in the paradigm of her perspective to stop. And I totally could have looked up the spelling of the names to make sure I had it right, but I just didn't feel like bothering. What I typed feels right to me, so if it's wrong, oh well.

I love such added in retroperspectively commenting texts but to your question, they both are neither di*ks nor a**holes. later it is revealed that emperor Belos puts potions in the water supply to block parts of the wiches magic and some people genetically shut completely down on an emotional personal level as a side effect. Of course Eda is the most powerfull witch (next to other reasons) since she lives so remotely and has her own water supply. And also Amity warms up emotionally around Luz, since magicaly an emotional bound between a human and a witch is different to that between two witches.
