Your unlit DRGB at the top end of that vertical strip is because your 3A DRGB mobo header does not have enough juice for your three strips on that one header. Also, your "One D-RGB header supports up to" notation is wrong for the M1 and M4 strips and also badly worded. Here is a far better way to do the D-RGB amperage math for those Neon strips: M1 1000mm Neon uses 1.8A M5 500mm Neon uses 0.9A M4 400mm Neon uses 0.72A Assuming the 3-Neon chain is a M1 and two M4, with the M5 wrapping around the other mobo, you are drawing 3.24A, which exceeds what the 3A D-RGB header can supply. So the last bit of that one vertical Neon is not lighting up. Although you can get these flexible DRGB diffused strips from Adafruit and AliExpress for half to one-third the price, these are nicely packaged for ease of use. I think they are the killer RGB product for 2019!!

the reason they only shine on one side is that inside there is a standard rgb strip, firing sideways into a reflector, which then shines out the one side with the even light. also, you can cut them if they have tiny black dots down one side. the dots are the cut location.

Aluminium cases aren't magnetic, and you can install these sideways, the magnets/adhesive strips would show. Now, adding magnets to those channel things as an option, that's a good middle ground, right? Also, Kyle could have used the hole on that 90º to mount it to the fan.

I know this is an older video, but I just installed these in my build, attached to a lian li sl120 controller. Was having the same issue you were with an end not lighting up. Turns out, they are split into 4 "zones". The hub recognizes them as fans and lights up 4 separate areas as 4 separate fans. That motherboard may just not have supported that many "zones" having them all linked together.

@youkosnake

@@dennisadinata6951 absolutely. You can connect any standard rgb connector to it. I've got 3 sets of sl120s connected to it, the phanteks neons, bypassed directly to my motherboard. You can tie fan speed to cpu or gpu in lian lis software now as well. Corsairs icue also let's you reroute all asus rgb(including the sl120s and phanteks via the bypass) directly through icue now as well. So my h150i elite lcd, all asus rgb, lian lis, and phanteks neons are all run through icue directly.

Hello! I just got phanteks rgb strips and they will stop lighting up on the maximum limit of LED's that your ARG hub/mobo chip can control; try swapping LED strips and you will see that the one you thought was deadge will light up and the previously full lit on will shut down half way. 3:20 The strips are actually sideways and placed in the black part. There's a little bit of the white silicon in front of the leds (under the black on the other side) and it's all one piece with the white silicon at the front. By placing the strip sideways like this, they're able to diffuse the strip much better.

You can cut this style of strip with a sharp utility knife. it’s a similar flex PCB inside to those you’re already familiar with. You can also join the ends together, just like normal pixel strips. The only difference is the silicone overmold. One trick to getting a tight 90° bend is to cut a wedge out of the overmold from the inside of the bend, being careful not to cut too deep. Thought this does kink the flex PCB inside, it should be fine if it isn’t flexed repeatedly.

The 5v header is probably set to 120 leds (max), which when connected in series causes any leds past 120 to not light. Try a splitter which will reduce the led count on a single (serial) string below the header max, but will make the light pattern duplicate rather than flow.

Usually, when the end LEDs don't work like this, in addressable strips, it's because you've reached the maximum number of LEDs that the strip memory can handle. They have a very limited amount of space. Phanteks may even suggest only putting like 2 or 3 of them together in a series because of this limited memory on the strip.

Not sure where you got the maximum supported numbers from. From what I can tell, there were too many dRGBs on that header. The header on that board supports 120 dRGBs, as per the manual. The the M1(1000mm) has 70 LEDs, the M5(550mm) has 38 LEDs, and the combo(2x 400mm) has 28 LEDs each. If you plugged in the M1, the M5, and one of the combo strips, it would put you 16 LEDs over the limit. If you plugged in the M1, and the 2x strips from the combo pack, it would have put you 6 LEDs over the limit. That would explain the strip having some LEDs which were out.

Hi Kyle this type of strip is somewhat fragile and can only bend in a certain way beacause the led chip dont shine directly out the white section, they are on the side hence why there is no hot spotting and why you couldnt bend it in a particular direction

Check your RGB controller software, it may have a setting to specify the number of addressable LEDs on the channel. On my AsRock motherboard, I had to increase it to light up all the LEDs.

So this style of led strip was designed as a replacement option for neon. The reason it's square is cause it's designed to be used in conjunction with a specific holder, and it only lets light through on one side because it's still technically a single sided led tape. The company Green LED Lighting Solutions are really the only company that make a really good, reliable version of this, and everything else not specifically their brand is a cheaper knockoff (that will fail prematurely). It has no hotspots cause neon has no hot spots.

So basically it wont shine your inside of the PC like a holy grail that every color will pour out of the case as it will overflow with the brightness, but this is a lot subtle, getting the shine while not getting everything illuminated inside. This is like having an accent to the PC rather than flashing/illuminating it throughout. Me wants!

Just bought the M1 to replace 3 Cablemod ARGB strips. The only thing I wish they had done differently is make the silicone slightly more transparent. Seems it would throw out more light, but I could see uniformity and hot spots being an issue. Should hopefully go well with my silver G.Skill Royal memory.
