I think this Anime would benefit from increased time in episodes in a bluray release. Slowing down some scenes and lingering on the quest/item screens. Jinwoo kicking the sword to Kim Chul was pretty much impossible to see so a slowmo there would be good. This anime feels like its held back by the 20min time frame and how much they want to get through.

10:30 (around there, when Il-hwan mentioned they'll be used against you), at this point, without giving too much of a spoiler, Il-hwan knows about the shadow monarch and, without knowing that it's jinwoo, believes that it will bring ruin to their world. he knows this for reasons i won't say because it's pretty plot relevant, but yeah, that's why. 11:30 when hwang dong-soo is defeated by il-hwan, here's a little more background. You may remember that the dungeons came to be around 10 years before the start of the story, and il-hwan mentions that he has been stuck inside of a gate for 10 years, which is true. Il-hwan was one of, if not, the first generations of awakeners, at a time before the ranking system even existed, and he was a powerful one, where if the ranks did exist, he would have been an s-rank. il-hwan and jinwoo were at an amusement park one day when a gate broke (which is when the time limit ends and the monsters can get out) so il-hwan, being one of the only ones that could help and that were strong, went to help. after the dungeon boss was defeated and the exterior monsters cleaned up, there were still some hunters trapped inside the gate so il-hwan went in to save them (he was a fire fighter before awakening, hence him wanting to save the hunters) and while he managed to get everyone out, he ended up trapped inside because of the time limit. 11:55 in some translations called the Avaricious Orb, it is an item that doubles the power of magic/magic attacks. this isn't much of a spoiler, so i'll say it even if it mentions it later, but this is one of the few, maybe only, items that does not have a restriction on him being able to "trade" it, which is a limitation items like the potions he drinks have, so he could not only give the orb to his soldiers, but he could give it to other people if he so chose. 13:55 so, not far off with that thought, but that's all i'll say because, again, heavy plot spoilers. oh and the thing about il-hwan not recognizing jinwoo, he w0uldn't, it was 10 years ago and jinwoo was (i think) like 12. 14:36 ding ding, mentioned it before but il-hwan is thinking of the entity of the shadow monarch as evil at this point, not knowing that it's jinwoo and not someone else. the neecromancy bit, no there aren't necromancers, but there are others who can summon, well, summons; they can usually only summon a few at a time though and they aren't exactly the same as jinwoo's shadow army. 15:15 don't worry il-hwan is trustworthy and, again, a pretty integral part of the story, but he isn't in the limelight much 17:00 so they do listen to jinwoo obediantly, but they also all have their own consciousness, so them being nice to jinho was because, well, they wanted to. 17:55 this may count as a spoiler, but it's kinda vague so ill put it here, but il-hwan doesn't go back to the family, and jinwoo doesn't see him again until a good while later in the series. this episode ends at around halfway through chapter 61 of the manhwa, and jinwoo doesn't see il-hwan until 162-165. anyways, sorry about the HUGE comment, but i just wanted to give more info that was kinda left out of this episode. anyways, love the reactions for this series especially, so keep it up and i can't wait for you to see more of this season when it comes out

No, in Korean, the family name is first, and the person actual name is after, just like in Japan. So it is SUNG Jinwoo. For example, one of my favorite singers in Korea is PARK Jinyoung (Got7). Other examples: CHOI Youngjae, KIM Yugyeom, and IM Jaebum (all are from GOT7). PARK, CHOI, KIM, and IM are some of the surnames in Korea (PARK and KIM have been the most common).

Recording a few words doesn't take much, and they possibly even had a Japanese VA voice it (although I think it was a native English speaker, with that accent). And the reason they didn't just continue with English VA's could be one or more of many: Maybe foreign VA's are more expensive. Anime's primary audience is Japan, so maybe it's easier and more familiar for them in their native language. And other possible reasons that I can't think of ✌

I love watching you guys speculate; you're pretty good at it!⬅ I'm a source reader (real source; the novels came before the manhwa). So I recognize this episode as a highlight reel. Don't get me wrong; it was great, but so much was left out. So much! A better adaptation would have spent at least 3 episodes to cover what this one did, and easily five to cover everything the novels did. Sigh. People have already done videos of what was left out compared to the manhwa, but from watching those, it appears the manhwa left out a lot as well. (I haven't read the manhwa, so not sure.) It will be very enlightening to watch AniNews' weekly breakdown of what was left out of episode 3 compared to the source (novels and manhwa).⬅ The one part which wasn't highly condensed was the stuff concerning Jinwoo's father. I think the episode covered that very well. At this point the source just gave hints as to what the father had experienced, and I wanted to know a lot more.

The way I sort of thought was with the mention of being devoured and used against them is that maybe Jinwoo is meant to turn bad and be used as some pawn against humans. I mean each time he kills a human something happens to him, he gets a little darker, like a piece of him is being taken away. I have no idea in all truth but I could see them having to battle each other at some point with Jinwoo's Father seeing him as a threat to humans with his powers, specially if he knows more about the things that game him those powers and the double dungeons. That's my theory anyway. I see it in a way that Jinwoo is meant to be the enemies weapon but he is fighting against that actively too. Hopefully we find out more by the end of this season.

alot of the reason why the manhwa is alot more entertaining is they really give time to expressing the personalities and individualism of the shadow soldiers, that which the anime has chosen to cutt off most of the times for time. jinwoo more so commands the shadow army than controls them. they are beholden and devotedly loyal to their master the moment they become one. also growing stronger along side him
